Wow, that's neat.

I like the non-branded drawings the best. Kind of odd to think of someone drawing an ad for Asics or Camper in their personal moleskine.

Once again, MadamJJJ, I tip my hat to you.

I love these things, and I love filling books with nonsense, but tell me; these moleskines, are they really that good? Worth spending 3-4 times what my normal (cheap) notebooks cost?

Also reminds me of the voynich manuscript, surely the king of all moleskine-like-things.

I used to think so but I carry mine with me every day and they seem to fall apart far easier than they used to and according to some, the paper quality has diminished. I'm not sure if I'm going to get a new one when my current one runs out.

MetaMonkey, here is a Moleskine-ing prior thread with people talking about why they like Moleskines and why they find them so neat. But heh, I think it is more about the recording than the instrument, so if you have your own preferred tools, more power to you.

Thanks for the link. My Moleskine's are much more boring (just words in poor penmanship).

There's also Moleskinerie, which is neat.

MetaMonkey, I think they're worth it. I carry mine everywhere and none have ever fallen apart. (I buy them iin bulk, I use them so much.)

Thanks for the tips, drezdn, madamjujujive & dobbs, I think I shall take a gamble and see what all the fuss is about. I still remember the day I found the perfect pen; I dare not dream my quest for the perfect notebook could soon be at an end.

So what's the perfect pen?

The Niceday TC50 (Medium or Fine), in black. It's a simple disposable biro, nothing special at all, pretty cheap. But it suits my purposes quite exactly. Perfect fluidity, rarely clogs or smudges, and the action is just real smooth, though demanding a firm, steady hand; resulting in a simple, elegant and flawless writing/doodling/mad scribbling experience, hitherto unequalled in all the writing utensils I have yet encountered. If I use another pen I feel the grating, scratching, friction of nib on paper in my stomach, or worse the inexactitude of a slippery, lazy, unconsumated contact.

I don't know if that explanation really matches the intensity of passion I feel for this pen, or conveys the full gravity of it's utility, but it is surprisingly hard to write about a biro.

I tried to link to the pen, but Niceday's website turns out to be an unfortunate, unlinkable flash monstrosity.

iffley, in addition to the prior moleskine thread, we also had a lively post by Miguel about fountain pen mania, a lively 96-comment thread that is rather a fun jaunt down memory lane.

I love my Moleskines. Even bought a pack of the softcover Cahier notebooks to use at work. I just wish I could buy the small Cahiers with the same page count/thickness as the hardcover versions, instead of a 3-pack of skinny ones.
