The Devout got Bush elected. So, he took the oath, assumed the office, and invaded Iraq. Maybe he had his reasons. And while the eye-popping carnage went on, you may not have noticed regular folk speaking their minds. Surely, though, this last couple of weeks, you noticed Justice Alito thanking James Dobson. And Missouri trying to proclaim a national religion. Oh, and South Dakota outlawing abortion. Gratuitous link.

If you scroll down the original link, on the left-hand side, you get this:

When a “Shield of Prayer” is raised over America and God is defending it, nothing our enemies can do will be effective. So while our Armed Forces faithfully defend America overseas, we need to faithfully defend this great country here at home … on our knees!

I don't see why we need to do any more praying since "In God We Trust" is already on our money.

Alito wants to meet with Dobson - big deal. What I've noticed the last so many years is that this just isn't shocking news any more. In 1954 it took the Knights of Columbus to get "under God" in the pledge and the Christian right in this country is comparitavely much stronger than the Knights - with a huge voting block to boot. All this shit going on just shows what idiocy will be allowed in the name of votes and God. Strikes me that Congress is in for a rude awakening this upcoming election. The polls have been dire for the Repubs.

All the more reason to rig the vote. Which, as everyone admits, is eminently feasible, and, frankly, downright cost-effective.

It would be for the greater good of the country, we just need a little longer to fortify the walls against the inevitable liberal onslaught on our sacred (in actuality, heretical) heritage.

It would be, in many eyes, no less than God's work.

I see people becoming increasingly exasperated lately here on the blue and elsewhere in regards to how audacious the White House has become. Personally, I welcome it. Midterm elections are historically difficult for the party in control of the White House, especially one with such a dismal approval rating. With the DB World port and India deals and the discussions of amnesty programs and immigration increases, the administration has opened themselves up to some (much deserved) criticisms on one of their strongest percieved abilities: Homeland Security. A lot of Republicans are trying to distance themselves from the White House lately, but the damage is already done for them. They've realized too late that the president doesn't care to work with them, he wants to "educate" them. There is some question about how much impact this will all have given the steadily decreasing amount of competitive districts, but I truly believe we're in for a noticable swing.

All of this serves the purpose of pulling more threads out of the sheep's clothing.

I remember on reading on many right-leaning blogs during the Alito hearings that just because he might support banning abortions there was no proof that when he took the bench that this would happen. Well, how many states are we up to now (South Dakota, Missouri, and now Mississippi)?

State Rep. David Sater (R), claims America’s Founding Fathers “recognized a Christian God” and established the nation on that God’s principles.

This is a totally asinine comment, and to think this person is voting on much more complex issues...

Don't these people remember who was oppressing the Pilgrims, Quakers, and Congregationalists, who forced them to flee to America in the first place?

Other Christians.
