That is a great and comprehesive exhibit. I'm variously impressed by this as a use of the web and annoyed by aspects of the interface. Great post!

Faze writes "And hate feminism."

What does this mean? I mean, is it a joke, or are you serious? If serious, what do you mean by it? I'm not trying to be snarky, I've just never really understood that statement, although I understand it's got a currency in certain circles.

matteo, excellent FPP. It's a beautiful site.

Thanks for asking OmieWise, I'm also baffled, frankly astounded by "And hate feminism." especially following "And I adore Jewish women."

OmieWise -- I hate that great big lie that a tiny cadre of big-mouthed "feminists" promulgated in the 1970s, the myth of female oppression, that insisted that the history of relations between the sexes was one of oppressor and oppressed, with the male as the oppressor, and that accused men of establishing gender roles and stereotypes for the explicit purpose of denying women power, when in fact, gender roles are really negotiated from generation to generation in response to historical needs, with neither side really having a permanent advantage. 1970s feminism broke the millennia-old rules of gender negotiation, and constituted a naked power grab on the part of some over privileged women, who were terrified of their own penis envy and rape fantasies.
I hate that feminism declared war on traditional female roles of homemaker, mother, and center of the family, and posited the dreary, soul-destroying world of white-collar professions as the only possible alternative for a woman of intelligence. I hate that this myth rendered a generation of women who might have enjoyed worthwhile family lives believe they had to forgo these lives to pursue unfulfilling professional dream, and are now trapped in sterile empty lives.
I hate that parity feminism has made women feel that being equal to men means being identical to men, and made them feel that they had to adopt the lowest forms of male sexual expression, leading to the "pornification of America," an even greater loss of women's sexual dignity and autonomy, and transformation of a generation of Manhattan women into whores.
I could go way on...

But I do love Jewish women. Tiny little Jewish women (my boss, my wife, and my agent) run my life. They each have incredible personal, professional, and social power. But none has any truck with "feminism."

Hatred of feminism for me = the women I know, and grew up with were already pretty liberated, so this whole feminism thing seemed unnecessary, and a seeming call for women who are just like men---blech to that!
