I don't understand this "clicking" thing. Where do I click again? How did I even get here?

Especially when you can create them with a ray from your flying saucer.

YOU WOULDN'T EVEN BE HERE IF IT WEREN'T FOR VOLCANOES. Show some respect OK?

Ooh! Ooh! I'm going to see one this summer, on the advice of fellow MetaFilterians!

If by "cool" you mean "eventually ending life as we know it"

Is there another definition of "cool?"

I'm sure you'll love it, MrMoonPie. I look forward to your report!

Oh! They have a virtual trip of the Tongiriro Crossing! I just did this two months ago when I was visiting New Zealand for school/geology related things. It ranks as the best hike that I've ever done!

The first picture that slide show has is of Mount Ngauruhoe, which is also famous because it is Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings. ;)

My pics from the trip can be viewed here, unfortunately, I don't have them labeled. :( However, the Tongiriro pictures are img_3369 - img_3574.

Definitely check it out if you get a chance, absolutely amazing.

That said, as a geologist, I have to say that volcanoes are definitely cool! Though I might be slightly biased. ;)

Doh! It's Tongariro! :(

Magma!

It's always been one of my life's ambitions to witness a volcanic eruption firsthand. I'd love to throw things into a lava flow, and perhaps take a leak into one.

Google maps lets you see some active volcanoes.

Guatemala
Kamchatka! (I love saying that):
Klyuchevskaya Sopka
Kronotsky
Montserrat (wow!)
Hawaii (zoom in for detail)
Vesuvius
Mt. St. Helens

Eideteker, see my AxMe post on the subject. We're brothers, man. See also the Google map of the Kilauea Caldera area. That little blob of white, just below the road in the upper-right-hand corner of the map, is where we're staying!

Sweet! Danke!

I saw people pouring water into cooling lava as well as poking an active flow with a trekking pole in Hawaii. This last was strongly discouraged by the park ranger. MrMoonPie, I've added to your AxMe. RockBandit, I love your photos. I've got to start climbing me some mountains.
