Oh! They have a virtual trip of the Tongiriro Crossing! I just did this two months ago when I was visiting New Zealand for school/geology related things. It ranks as the best hike that I've ever done!
The first picture that slide show has is of Mount Ngauruhoe, which is also famous because it is Mount Doom from Lord of the Rings. ;)
My pics from the trip can be viewed here, unfortunately, I don't have them labeled. :( However, the Tongiriro pictures are img_3369 - img_3574.
Definitely check it out if you get a chance, absolutely amazing.
That said, as a geologist, I have to say that volcanoes are definitely cool! Though I might be slightly biased. ;) posted by RockBandit at 1:06 AM on March 9, 2006

It's always been one of my life's ambitions to witness a volcanic eruption firsthand. I'd love to throw things into a lava flow, and perhaps take a leak into one. posted by Eideteker at 9:35 AM on March 9, 2006
Eideteker, see my AxMe post on the subject. We're brothers, man. See also the Google map of the Kilauea Caldera area. That little blob of white, just below the road in the upper-right-hand corner of the map, is where we're staying! posted by MrMoonPie at 10:34 AM on March 9, 2006
I saw people pouring water into cooling lava as well as poking an active flow with a trekking pole in Hawaii. This last was strongly discouraged by the park ranger. MrMoonPie, I've added to your AxMe. RockBandit, I love your photos. I've got to start climbing me some mountains. posted by Songdog at 11:49 AM on March 10, 2006
