Dirty Dirk To Clean House?

EPA Choice Idaho Gov. Dirk Kempthorne (R), whose environmental views Green Folk align with the Dark Lord Sauron of Mordor, is the leading candidate to become the new administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency.

It really is like a dark force has taken over the land.

What a great description. Though I can't say the exiting EPA admin has been anything better. Fuckin' evil short sighted people.

Naturally.

This is the Bush modus operandi. If you can't get support to eliminate the EPA, appoint some anti-environment asshole to head it, so that it is effectively eliminated. He's been doing this since he was elected way back in 2000, in areas other than just the EPA. The government is essentially for sale, under Bush.

et cetera, et cetera.

Corrupt. To. The. Core.

Is this really a surprise? Did anyone expect an actual environmentalist to be appointed to anything under Bush II?

I can back up the 'Dark Lord of Sauron' description, Idaho's land looks like the Orcs have taken over. If you live in Washington state near the Idaho/Washington border you can drive from Pullman to the border along the highway in the early morning and see the evidence. Fog envelopes the land as you descend the hillside, almost like you're descending in a plane. Then as you break out of the clouds the landscape is revealed below: Huge smokestacks pumping out filth adding to the fog, eerie mists swirling about and occasionally, out of the corner of your eye, the sighting of an Orc, wearing a beat-up old baseball cap reading 'moustache rides for free'.
Truly a frightening land, I will not return alone. . .

Am I missing something? That's an article from 2003. Kempthorne is the nominee for the Secretary of the Interior.

Drill, baby, drill: Adios, ANWR.

BillyElmore is close, but got some of the details wrong on the FPP. Kempthorne is not the leading candidate to become the new administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency. He's Bush's nominee to be Interior Secretary.

It's actually more important, in some ways, than the EPA. Interior oversees the National Park system, wildlife refuges, and endangered species.

Of course, BillyElmore got the big part right: Kempthorne 's environmental record is a disaster.

A better link to the ANWR story.

National Parks are a breeding area for terrorists. They must be destroyed.

National Parks stand in the way of man's dominion over the earth. It is god's will that the land be raped and pillaged.

I get excited, rush on stage with a FPP. I slip, fall ass over tea cup. Grin, limp off stage. Will I ever get one of the fricken posts right, I wonder from my trailer?

Not exactly a surprise given this administration's M.O.--choosing the absolute worst possible person for every single job, people who all but openly admit that they bring inappropriate agendas with them. Michael Brown, who lacked conflicts of interest and radical philosophies even as he lacked qualifications, was actually a relative highlight.

Some users are good at hearing about an issue they care about, finding good links about it, and building a strong post around that link (digaman jumps to mind). It's a skill not everyone has. Maybe you'd be better off only posting when you find a link you like, rather than posting about an issue you care about that requires research to make into a worthwhile post?

I try to console myself for posting the wrong article, as I check makeup and spruce my costume.

My accidental posting of a 2003 story is telling, isn't it? I say, giving someone a straight line, and leaving myself wide open.

I do a Google search for “foxes guarding hen houses in the Bush administration” and get so many hits I bump into the same guy three years earlier. Actually I said that, jokingly and then actually did that search and got 179,000 hits.

It’s also ironic, and a bit of déjà vu. Bush was considering Dark Lord Dirk to head the Environmental Protection Agency back 2003. Now he gives us this disastrous chap for an even more important position.

Freedom is on the march.

Rachel Maddow was talking about this on Air America this morning. Sharp lady. I know she is also on with Tucker the bow tie guy too.

“Gov. Kempthorne is a very nice, personable and noncombative person...”

“What do you think the Devil is going to look like if he's around? Nobody is going to be taken in if he has a long, red, pointy tail. No. I'm semi-serious here. He will look attractive and he will be nice and helpful and he will get a job where he influences a great God-fearing nation and he will never do an evil thing... he will just bit by little bit lower standards where they are important. Just coax along flash over substance... Just a tiny bit. And he will talk about all of us really being salesmen. And he'll get all the great women.” - Albert Brooks in Broadcast News.

I’m curious why likability is suddenly such an asset. If I want to get a job done I look at professionalism first. Some of the best officers and civilians I’ve worked with were cast iron sons of bitches, but when it came to doing the job they were heads up team players, took ownership of their piece of it and performed. Of course, some were just jerks and got nowhere. I would think for the EPA job you would want a real tenacious hard headed bastard in there to enforce the laws and regulations.
I know there are problems with the Republican party, but where the hell did this touchy-feely crap come from?

Doesn't Kempthorne resemble the Reverend Bob Tilton?

Oh, and Idaho is very nice, despite the Republicans.

Yeah, it's alright here. We're glad to be rid of Dirkie-boy, but I for one apologize that we must foist him off on the rest of you to do so...
