This post was deleted for the following reason: a few too many copyvios.

Note: you can't just right-click and Save As on the files, you have to go through this beg-for-money server host thing.

Once you deal with that hassle, the actual file downloading is very rapid, at least so far.

Yeah. That's a real downside. Also, the files are in RAR compression, and you can't just download one file ... you need to download all the files in the group, as the RAR unpacker will expect to find them.

holy shit let it be.

if this works i'll be amazed, its going to take forever if i have to download each rar separately.

I did it. This is a spam ad. don't bother trying to dl anything, it only lets you dl 1 archive then demands you pay to dl more to dl rest. A$$

kallen you can wait an hour, then you can download another... rapidshare and its ilk suck ass and were obfuscated by bittorrent.

sourbrew: thx, my err. Note: if you are not there within 30 seconds of countdown completion you have to start all over.

I'm too busy to set timers for such. I'll find what i need on .tor or donkey2k. This is not worth the effort and smells like an ad to me.

What a shitty blog!

A lot of this stuff seems to be from archive.org, and all the stuff that isn't appears to be available on DVD. Rapidshare tends to be tolerable for those obscure vinyl-ripping album-bloggers, but not for this.

Uh, no. This is not a self-link.

it still smells. Waiting around 5 hours to dl 1 file in 5 parts one part per hour unless you pay up is, intentionally or not, a period of time you must wait, read their ads, until you are permitted to dl.

This is mostly why i threw away my television.

The site is set up to advertise itself if you are not a paid/paying member. If the poster intends to freely share their files, perhaps torrents or utilizing ed2k/etc. would be much more appropriate.

Um, "Finding Nemo" ? "Mission to Mars" ? "Braveheart" ? It seems like he might get away with a lot of the other stuff, why mix it with straight-up copyright violation of stuff you could just walk into the store and buy?
posted by teleskiving at 1:19 AM on March 21, 2006

How is this even legal? A whole bunch of that stuff is most certainly not out of copyright.

And then basically attempting to soft-arm the unwitting downloader for money for it?

Why is this even here on MeFi? Why not just link to Archive.org and Pirate Bay and be done with it?

archive.org, the pirate bay

You know, I love blog sharity. But posting "Braveheart"? Flagged. This could get all of us in trouble.

Quick note: Kallen, stop bitching about rapidshare. It is what it is, and it's great for the various vinyl blogs out there. It's not nefarious. It's just a place to store files. That's not wrong with this post. What's wrong with this post is that it's a single-link to a site that is chock full of stuff you can get for cheap on Amazon or at your local video/record store (God for-fucking-big we ever shop offline, of course).

Crunch, I'm gonna flag this one too... I didn't see the new stuff until someone else pointed it out. And the one-file-per-hour thing sucks... I STILL haven't seen the dumb motorcycle ride yet. :)
posted by Malor at 2:29 AM on March 21, 2006

I agree about the limitations of rapidshare totally sucking. And I didn't notice just how much new stuff, either.

I do know that not all of the arguably legit stuff is not available at archive.org ... those old Charlie Chaplin movies or the Laurel & Hardy movies, not there. Sky King, not there. Whether those things are worth the hassle ... well...

Back in the days of 2400 baud modems... you kids are just spoiled rotten and don't even know it. Damned whippersnappers!

How about public domain torrents as a substitute? Movies, not TV, but it's the same kind of "you're not going to find this old stuff anywhere else" opportunity . . . with 100% less illegality.
