If any railfans come to Denver, be sure to visit the Colorado Railroad Museum near Golden (and say howdy to Buffalo Bill while you're passing through.) The birthplace of the Rio Grande Southern Railroad is Ridgeway, Colorado, where you can still see the unique Galloping Goose Buick Railmotor (more details & pix here.)

Nice, thanks, Gator! They built some crazy railways in Colorado. The Switzerland Trail (outside of Boulder) is now a hiking/biking/4x4 trail. Riding up it, you wonder how a train ever made it up there. The Rollins Pass trail is another repurposed recreational railroad grade that makes it high up there, across the top of the Divide.

The canyon is so narrow they made a hanging bridge. neat post! I grew up nearby.

You can take the Royal Gorge Route dinner train (high-res photos) on the same Denver & Rio Grande hanging bridge today, and walk over the Royal Gorge Bridge hanging 1000' above it.
