Jethro's been trying to get that Beverly Hillbillies casino off the ground for years, first in Reno, where problems with the mall owner killed the deal, and now in Carson City, where he's getting a cold reception from the city council, which is apparently trying to annex the property and develop it as something other than Jethro's House O' Luck. I don't know why I care, but there ya go. Actually, I do know why I care; it's kind of fun to watch a former star acquire the rights to his old character and push a semi-loony pet project against long odds. Guy's got a head full of ideas for making money off his moment in the spotlight, that's for sure.

True story: Years ago while visiting relatives in a very mountainous region of Virginia, WAY up in a holla, I was helping rebuild an engine for a 68 Chevelle. An old man walked up and said, "When what gen got chyall, whon bitta breaka." Or something like that. He was seriously speaking a different language. I was like, "what?" My super cute little neice said, "He's asking if we have any hard candy." My uncle, while doing something on the engine, explained that he needs a piece of hard candy to drop into a glass of moonshine to "lighten it up" a little bit. My uncle showed me later that night. It was good!

Here's another story. Having lived in both Indiana and Kentucky, phone conversations with my east coast family invariably involved a question like: So, do you have that good x in grocery stores out there (some mundane item) or do you also get such and such a show on TV? Yikes! Where do they come up with this stuff?
