Whatever it was, I've seen something this macabre on here before...

Given the size of myspace (20 million? 50 million? 200 million accounts?) I suspect someone will die pretty much every day, just by the odds of such large numbers. The worst part is when obit stories are tweaked to somehow create a link between myspace contributing to a death.

Mathowie, it's about 70 million right now.

Of course not all of those are active. And many are bands, or fake. But that's a still a helluva lot of people.

Given how many people that I encounter have a MySpace profile, even if they don't use it, there's a significant chance anyone aged 16-30 that dies is going to have one.

Holy cow. I was just wondering about whether there was a site like this, after a friend found the MySpace profile of a woman who died in a car wreck here in Honolulu last night. And we've had a spate of the typical media hysteria over pedophiles and stalkers on the site, with URLs of alleged victims and perpetrators making the rounds...

I'll see their name in my book and smile.

I have the last email my father sent me 13 years ago before he was killed 24 hours later. It wasn't much, just a few responses to a question I had. He was 45.

I've had many jobs and many computers since then, but I always manage to keep the archive around and incoporate it into something bigger.

He and I didn't really get along, but it's still something I can show the world (besides myself and my brother) that proves he was here.

It's a really new, and fairly incredible experience to go through these pages. I remember in school how history classes used to emphasize the importance of primary sources for a true understanding of the what was being studied.

Today, you can go directly from secondary sources to primary sources, which is in certain cases the public/group blog< ->Mainstream Media model we have today, but it's so much more poignant when it's personal blog/site< ->MSM...

My father has talked a lot about the MSM coverage of deaths on an individal level pushed public sentiment about the Vietnam war towards its tipping point. It may be worthwhile to create a wounded/killed site like this for members of the military alone -- I certainly would like to honor them in the context of their own lives and words.</></>

There used to be a pretty active livejournal.com community for this, but in an amazing display of hypocrisy, the LiveJournal Abuse "staff" pretty much forced the guy off of LJ.

From my experiences getting random IMs from high schoolers and younger, they don't deviate from TXT speech because it's their native form of casual written speech... To me, it takes effort to write that way. To them, the idea of writing any other way seems absurd.
