I still think it peculiar that one can get shitfaced at a cop bar, but if a grad student at Haravrd gets caught with a joint, they must either run or call a lawyer.

Get these motherfucking cops off the motherfucking myspace.

Cops looking at MySpace. And arresting girls for taking child-porn pics. Of themselves. What the heck?

Well... it is illegal?

Yes, that information is in the uh... link.

Those girls may go to jail for a long time, and for what, I can't bloody figure out.
posted by digaman at 1:16 PM on March 30, 2006

I saw that article earlier today and was rather surprised to learn that you can be prosecuted for making child porn of yourself.
posted by rxrfrx at 1:16 PM on March 30, 2006

digaman, one of the girls was 19. the other a minor. sexually explicit photographs taken together is illegal in most states.
posted by NationalKato at 1:17 PM on March 30, 2006

wait - so after the cops bring in the girls for taking child pornography pictures of themselves, do they then have to turn themselves in for looking at child pornography?

the internets are getting confusing.

Well digaman, I don't think the book should be thrown at them. Hell, I don't even think it should be illegal. But it is, and should any of us happen to browse myspace and come across it... and get caught...

A slap on the wrist is in line IMO, as it is illegal.
posted by rob paxon at 1:20 PM on March 30, 2006

rxrfrx, I believe their main mistake was posting the photos on each of their MySpace pages.
posted by NationalKato at 1:20 PM on March 30, 2006

Thanks, NK. Yeah -- the first time I read the article, I didn't get that they were doin' stuff together. My bad, as they say.

Cops spend all day beating minorities and breaking strikes to protect us. Why should we care if they spend their free time trolling for ass or talking bad about people they arrested? Why would the cops bother to arrest people if the people weren't guilty?

(note: the above statement can be used to get excused early from jury duty.)

Had it been two 19-year olds, the cops probably would've just pinned the image up in the locker room.

how'd they know she wasn't 99 years old like her profile said?

Police were on the Myspace scene...you know what I mean?

They passed me up, confronted all the underage porn fiends.

You're sure the illegal image isn't pinned up in the locker room?

Cops are the law.

You know it's only a misdemeanor to run from the cops? Plus, it looks great on television.

But on the Internet, there's nowhere to run.

In MySpace noone can hear you scream. Unless you're screaming "OMG! I m SO DEPRESSED!!! LOLOLOL!!!!"

How long before you can be arrested for molesting yourself?
Don't give anti-masturbation fundies ideas...

rxrfrx writes "I saw that article earlier today and was rather surprised to learn that you can be prosecuted for making child porn of yourself."

It's because if they don't the pedophile/child porn witch hunt breaks down. It's the same reason computer created child porn is illegal many places.

According to the link, one of the girls was 19, the other was 16. Both old enough to consent to sex. Maybe the 19 year old was posting out of date pictures?

I don't really think children should be charged for taking pictures of themselves, though.

If I use a time machine and go back to the past, can I consensually rape myself (I mean, the past self won't like it, but what the hell, I am retroactively consenting!)? What about if I go back to when I was a ten year old?

That's irony, right? Right??

Anyway, all of the myspace officers were working patrol and fairly inexperienced. I've heard baby cops tell outrageous stories in public where they shouldn't. They just need to grow up a bit.

(said image appeared in the local paper after the infamous Halloween celebration here in Madison one year. The next day, my son asked me: "Daddy, why is the Stormtrooper beating up on Spongebob?")
