I assume this arises out of the Revolution's (or whatever they're going to call it) unique wand controller thingie? Could be interesting.
Oh, and R.I.P. Bob Ross. posted by pardonyou? at 6:28 AM on April 5, 2006
See, on the DS, that could work. But why not just release Mario Paint DS? posted by RokkitNite at 6:28 AM on April 5, 2006
I heard this was coming to the DS as well. posted by Dr-Baa at 6:28 AM on April 5, 2006

Bob Ross was like magic. I remember watching him. He brought painting with a spatula to a whole new level. posted by bondcliff at 6:33 AM on April 5, 2006
A Bob Ross game sounds interesting (and certainly sounds like something up Nintendo's alley-- innovation, and all). posted by May Kasahara at 6:37 AM on April 5, 2006
I will make a bold predicition here; this game is gonna suck. posted by batou_ at 6:39 AM on April 5, 2006
If you're a white guy and you win the game, does that mean you'll start growing a bushier Afro? posted by jonp72 at 6:41 AM on April 5, 2006
Knowing Nintendo, the controller will be the bushy afro, jonp72. posted by NationalKato at 6:53 AM on April 5, 2006

Sold.
Seriously. Back in the days before cable, this is what I watched when I got home from school. Yes, watching paint dry was literally the best thing on TV. posted by empath at 7:24 AM on April 5, 2006
I saw that show a couple times. It was always really amazing to see the landscapes take shape from such simple brush strokes.
And while I get the DS version, how is the revolution game goin to work? A wand type thing isn't nearly as accurate as a brush type thing posted by delmoi at 7:27 AM on April 5, 2006
I just want to know if the game will have the baby squirrel that he had for a while. It would sit on his shoulder, and tunnel in and out of his hair.
Empath... I was right there with you. Bob Ross after school was a ritual. posted by kimdog at 7:27 AM on April 5, 2006
you take two things i loved as a child.. nintendo and bob ross.. this game could suck so bad i would still love it. posted by trishthedish at 9:10 AM on April 5, 2006
I didn't want to get my hopes up...didn't want to believe it was really true. My co-worker and I stood at our computers and shouted excitedly but I shook my head back and forth. No, no, it can't be real.
But here's the Metafilter validation, right? I can rejoice wholeheartedly, now. And it's sweeter for the wait. posted by redsparkler at 9:50 AM on April 5, 2006
Shoot, let's have some fun right here. posted by 6am at 10:00 AM on April 5, 2006
Bob Ross after school for me too!
I'm curious how much of this is gonna do it for you. Like select "Happy Little Trees" and everything that comes out of your brush will be trees, fully formed.
I mean, that's the closest way to how he did it.
I do hope the squirrel is there. posted by Brainy at 11:17 AM on April 5, 2006
Potentially exciting, but I'm still cautiously optimistic. The first I'd heard of it was on the first, but on the other hand, it would be great. The DS stylus would make a great painting tool, and some of my fondest SNES memories come from Mario Paint, without which we wouldn't have Homestar Runner. Please let it be true. posted by Durhey at 12:18 PM on April 5, 2006
I always like the Germanic version a little better . . . MIGHTY TREES!
This game sounds brilliant. I'm skeptical of the new Nintendo controller, but titles like this one could really widen the console market. posted by undule at 2:49 PM on April 5, 2006
You fool! This was supposed to be our little secret! Remember what Bob said! He said if you told anyone... he would cut you! posted by Effigy2000 at 2:51 PM on April 5, 2006
Bob Ross took over for this other old dude on PBS whose name I can't remember, but he took the tecnique directly from him and was his student if I remember right. Bob was marketed better. Maybe it was the 'fro. posted by Eekacat at 6:55 PM on April 5, 2006
Oh man...I've spent so many hours watching Bob Ross. I loved his happy accidents. There is nothing on TV as calming as Bob. Bless his bushy head.
I would probalbly buy a Bob Ross game, it's true. posted by dejah420 at 7:28 PM on April 5, 2006
As long as they sample his voice from the hundreds of shows he must have appeared in and then use those samples to just ramble on at you while you paint, that's fine with me. It's nothing without the voice. posted by Navek Rednam at 10:03 PM on April 5, 2006
