Segregation, or an acknowledgment of the truth?

The city of Omaha will soon be dividing its school system into three smaller segregated districts: one black, one white and one hispanic. straight from the nation's only unicameral legislature, the bill has been called everything from unconstitutional to a giant step backwards for civil rights. The man at the center of the bill? Omaha's own Ernie Chambers, a 36 year veteran of the state senate and its lone black member, who summed it up by reminding everyone that segregation was already there to begin with.

"Senator Chambers used the structure to pull a ‘Gotcha’ in the word of one headline. He has tried many ways to force the white community to publicly recognize that there is segregation in housing."
