"Who gets tattoos? AWESOME PEOPLE ARE WHO GET TATTOOS."
Um...OK.
I'll bet that person who got Halfpint! on their calf is going to regret that in ten years. posted by jimmythefish at 1:08 AM on April 26, 2006
Sigh.
I'm sure there's a bad tattoos community on livejournal or myspace where you can all go bitch/laugh to your hearts content.
The toothpaste for dinner tattoo makes me laugh every time. posted by slimepuppy at 1:30 AM on April 26, 2006
All I'm sayin' is why White Ninja?
I mean, as funny as it might be, he draws like my five-year old. And I don't let him use permanent marker, let alone a tattoo needle. posted by Parannoyed at 1:32 AM on April 26, 2006
The White Ninja "tattoo of a muscley arm on a muscley arm" is one of my favourites. I can't believe that people tattoo Toothpaste for Dinner comics on themselves though. Yes, they're funny, but wtf? posted by antifuse at 1:38 AM on April 26, 2006
Oh, and from the Mac tattoo page - why the hell do people consider the standby symbol to be representative of the Mac? Was the Mac first to use this? I don't get it. posted by antifuse at 1:42 AM on April 26, 2006
I can't imagine ever regretting a Sheriff Pony tattoo. posted by RylandDotNet at 1:46 AM on April 26, 2006
Okay, the muscley-arm was brilliant, I'll give you that.
And Antifuse, I've always been shown that as the power button, not the standby. posted by Parannoyed at 1:47 AM on April 26, 2006
Yes, I assumed it was a superimposition of 1 (on) and 0 (off). posted by Kiwi at 2:20 AM on April 26, 2006
why the hell do people consider the standby symbol to be representative of the Mac?
You made me curious, so I checked: 9 of the 11 electrical devices within easy reach of this chair use that symbol for power or for standby. A quick Google found a lot of people who associate the symbol with Apple (usually people asking for Apple-related tattoo or haircut design ideas, actually!) but nothing to suggest that Apple created or popularised it. It is apparently just a standard.
A mean explanation would be to say that Apple fans naturally assume that anything they consider elegant or well-designed must be an Apple thing... posted by ArmyOfKittens at 2:24 AM on April 26, 2006
Oh - back to regrettable tattoos: who can forget this classic. posted by Kiwi at 3:42 AM on April 26, 2006
Any tattooing story that has the word 'drunk' in it worries me. No one involved in the process should be intoxicated. And it's pretty fucking unprofessional for the tattooist to go through with a tattoo when 'he could not understand what she was saying.' posted by slimepuppy at 4:05 AM on April 26, 2006
Yeah, that's what I meant - I remember seeing that AskMe thread ages ago, and didn't see the Mac relation.
At any rate, if we're talking about awesome tattoos, my favourite is the first result if you do a GIS for lawnmower tattoo (possibly NSFW, I guess)
And that drunk tattoo story, I think the girl was just trying to cover up for the fact that she didn't know how the athlete's name was spelled, and probably wasn't drunk at all. posted by antifuse at 4:32 AM on April 26, 2006
At a friend's tattoo shop there is a flash portait of Pee-Wee Herman on the wall. As far as I know, no on has actually gotten it, though. posted by TedW at 4:43 AM on April 26, 2006
Oh, oh, even worse! [Not Really Safe for Work or Snackfoods / Bakery Icons] posted by exlotuseater at 5:09 AM on April 26, 2006
I was aghast at the Apple tats until I saw the Sad Mac. That, I could accept.
I think one of them missed a chance -- it should have said "Ink Different"
The link to the i-in-a-circle is incorrect. An I completely surrounded by a circle is "power on/power off". A I "escaping" from a circle, like the Mac power icon, means 'Soft power on/off' -- more importantly, it means that there may still be active circutry in the box, even when it appears off. posted by eriko at 5:37 AM on April 26, 2006
and the muscley arm is from Strongbad. Its the "big beefy arm" that he draws for TROGDOR! posted by ShawnString at 6:08 AM on April 26, 2006
ShawnString: White Ninja may have copied it (although, drawing a muscley arm in a cartoony way isn't really that hard) but I'm pretty sure the dude that got that tattoo, based it on this White Ninja comic posted by antifuse at 6:19 AM on April 26, 2006
