New Zealand: High-tech socialist paradise? Only time will tell.

The announcement follows months of signals from senior MPs including the Prime Minister Helen Clark and Deputy Prime Minister Michael Cullen that they were unhappy with broadband uptake rates, the cost and data limits.

Translation: Members of Parliament thought their porn was downloading too slow.

Great. Now even the Kiwi's have faster interwebs than us Aussies. This just fucking sucks.

Screw you Howard! Screw you and that luddite Alston you put in the telecommunications portfolio for years! And screw you for appointing an incompetent hack like Helen Coonan to replace him!

You have nothing on South Africa. The fastest ADSL we can get is 1Mbps with 1 GB of data costing R65-75 (about $10). Currently I'm on a blazing fast 384 Kbps with a 3GB account for R195.00. And as another insult I have to 'rent' my ADSL line for an extra R270.00 over and above the R80.00 charge for a normal voice line. And the net result: R8 billion a year profit for our monopoly Telkom and the most expensive communications costs for regular citizens. More info at HellKom and MyBroadband.

Help us Obi-Wan!

Yo effigy, read the first article?

PenDevil speaks rightly. Telkom has a competitor, of sorts, but Telkom makes sure the lines going in to the competitor are inadequate.

All this in addition to power outages in Capetown, which shut down my access because I use a router there! I'm not even in the same province.

New Zealand is going to be fantastic to live in shortly, what with the Prime Minister's public acknowledgement of Peak Oil and all too. Go NZ!

This New Zealand... how is their immigration policy?

Restrictive.

Yeah, I did. It showed in 2005 we finally managed to beat NZ. I suspect when (if) this page is updated to take account of the news in the 2nd article for 2006, my statement will still hold true.

Which one?

My internet connection is faste enough and cheap enough for me. And it doesn't rely on telstra at all.

I'm in Auckland, and I'm delighted about this news. We have a 3.5Mbps ADSL connection, 30GB international per month. Unlimited national. The only change I'd like to see is to get less A in the ADSL, it's got a ludicrous 128Kbps upstream speed.

Stop bragging you Kiwi bastard!

I kid, I kid. Peace and love and all that.
