I feel so frustrated by this. I have the same problem with this I've had with most SpumCo output lately. They know how to make a good animation and I LOVE their art style, but there's no. fucking. content. I mean, wtf was that? I mean, pandas? COME ON!@!

I'm happy that Spumco is still around, and that realization -- along with the music of Plone finally getting some equally adorable visuals to go along with their sound -- was enough for me to like this. It's a shame that Plone no longer exists. One album, kaput. Now how about getting back to that Ren & Stimpy comeback?

They know how to make a good animation and I LOVE their art style, but there's no. fucking. content. I mean, wtf was that? well there is content of course - are you really saying there's "no. fucking. narrative"? I reckon the reason anyone disagrees with a choice a filmmaker took is because they had preconceptions of what a film 'should be', before they watched it. The ideas for spumco stories seem heavily inspired by stuff like this this fleischer cartoon from 1930 that john K linked to. There is a kind of narrative but really its just a platform for crazy stuff to happen, and it's brilliant! They're a marriage of music, sound and action that isn't supposed to necessarily mean anything other than be something silly and fun to watch.

That film was so deeply unattractive that I'll have to spend the whole day making cooing noises over pandafix to make up for it. SPOILER WARNING The only good thing was that both of the unpleasant little beasts died; I felt sorry for the owl, though.

There was a Ren & Stimpy "comeback" two years ago. Many are trying to burn it from their memory. Ok, I'm not one of them. The 2003 season is now out on DVD. Plenty of clips can be seen here and here. Personally I think it's some of the smoothest, funniest, and cartooniest animation available today. It's hard to see how anyone concerned about the craft of animation could disagree. Their take on nudity is hilarious to watch. Check out the 'Shampoo Master' clip on the first link - it's only like 10 seconds but I laugh every time.
