Paul Rogers was singing "Can't Get Enough Of Your Love" in the background when I opened that link and it's ensuing sounds.

It was hawt.

Note that if you're in NYC, you can be a beta tester.

I'm all for All Things Mario, but I don't really get it. Strap into a bungee cord and jump around in the same place? How about putting that cord on a track and run through a big course, with the pipes and everything. Maybe that's what it actually is, but the video didn't show that.

My Mom told me that no one would ever see this video.

Hmm, that seems a little too real for me.

I think they've mocked up a course in a bid to get investment, Zardoz. For the real thing, they're planning to use cutting edge mycotechnology to breed actual giant goombas for players to stomp on.

From Wired: "Venture capitol has gone to worse ideas."

I'm still deciding if I can agree with that statement.

Uhm, yeah. Looks like they've collected enough magic mushrooms already.

I can't wait to get on the roller coaster at this amusement park and go "Wiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiii!!!!!!"

i think my boyfriend and i are going to go test the beta... at least we should get some funny photos out of it.

Yey - intellectual property infringement.

It would be much more entertaining if they'd let you play in a virtual Wario World. That Wario guy, he cracks me up.

I honestly get the impression that several someones made the terrible mistake of chewing on a few too many wild shrooms and watching "Super Mario Bros. - The Movie", when really they should have tangented right into the lovely Maximum eXtreme Challenge - which not only would have entertained the bejesus out of them and their mushroomy state of mind, but it would also have shown them the hilarious futility of average folks attempting to replicate video game acrobatics with or without augmentation.

That being said, if they ever get this park off the ground I really want to see video of it. Lots of video. Lots of video of people going splat.

Eh, I dunno, their use of "High profile intellectual property" is the reason this was posted here. They'll probably get lots of publicity before their shutdown notice.

That said, it took me a while to realize this wasn't legit. I mean, Nintendo has been known as the 'innovator' in the video game industry lately.

When I read "power assist harness" I thought "OMG, they put you in a robotic exoskeleton, this will be the coolest thing ever!". Then I saw pictures of guys jumping around with those bungee cords attached to them. THIS is your "power assist harness"??? The same damn thing that acrobats and gymnasts have been using for many many many years?

LAAAAAAAAME!

A little warning next time on the audio/video would be nice.
posted by blendor at 2:27 AM on May 17, 2006

Yeah, I read the blurb below while the video was loading, and I thought 'This is going to be brilliant!'.

It wasn't brilliant. But the idea deserves to be done properly! I like my augmented reality to be a wee bit more augmented, that's all.

Basing it on bungy cords is never going to work. A motors-and-sensors rig that senses that you've jumped, and *jumps* you. That's what you need.

The moustache was a nice touch.

Not jumps you in a dirty sense, mind.
posted by wilberforce at 3:42 AM on May 17, 2006

They had more of a course to jump around, but the first fire flower test, well... it didn't go well.
posted by robocop is bleeding at 4:33 AM on May 17, 2006

Now, of course, the next step would be to put this rig in a multi-story building.

Why?

METROID.

was everyone else thinking "implants"

This may be due to a subconcious desire to see Mario with big projectile tits. Test subjects will be shown a series of images, including Bugs Bunny in drag, and their brain activity meaured in an otherwise neutral environment.

This TOTALLY rules.

I'm as skeptical as the rest, but that's exactly what they're proposing.

Ahh, see, now THAT is what I'm talkin about. Why would you have that totally lame video on your website? Better to have nothing at all, IMO.
