Al Gore doesn't practice what he preaches

The damning evidence Al Gore has gone out of his way...in fact...made it his mission to condemn users of fossil fuels. He is in fact his own nightmare.

Is this serious link... because the The Competitive Enterprise Institute is seriously batshit/snot/insane by most definitions. If one is to be critical of Gore link to someone not quite so divergent with reality.

There are medications for psychosis like they exhibit

Does this mean they're scared of this movie? Or just business-as-usual?

Wow, a one link post to a site that's been roundly mocked on the blue.

You are going to get so flamed.....

The scientific consensus is clearly expressed in the reports of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). Created in 1988 by the World Meteorological Organization and the United Nations Environmental Program, the IPCC is charged with evaluating the state of climate science as a basis for informed policy action. In its most recent assessment, the IPCC states unequivocally that the consensus of scientific opinion is that Earth's climate is being affected by human activities:
"Human activities . . . are modifying the concentration of atmospheric constituents . . . that absorb or scatter radiant energy. . . . [M]ost of the observed warming over the last 50 years is likely to have been due to the increase in greenhouse gas concentrations."

In shockingbluamp's defense, the "Al Gore: An Inconvenient Story" web-only video to which this post apparently refers was posted after all of the recent mocking took place. Still, probably better off as a comment on the existing thread.

The fact that Al Gore is a huge consumer of the fuels he is condemning stands by itself. How can you defend that? I ride a fuckin bike and don't fly. I changed. He won't because he is promoting himself. Defend al Gore. He doesn't give a shit unless you have $ to give him. Hell...give him enough and he might fly his plane to your backyard and BBQ a goat. His hand is out there waiting for your cash. He'll scare you into giving.

And yet, here you are... using the INTERNET. All of it powered by electricity, very little of it green. Your only hope is to get out of here, dig a hole and lie in it, never posting again.

that makes sense....is that all you got? I use a computer? Sorry...bash me but that is LAME.

How can you defend that?

I think the issue here is the extent to which anthropogenic climate change will negatively impact human societies and whether or not energy companies -- and their friends in power -- will forestall the reforms needed to avoid global ecological and social collapse.

But if you want to focus on Mr. Gore's transportation habits, go nuts.

I'm sorry, but a little crappily animated image of Gore jumping around the country is just as convincing for the other side. How about some real figures?

He obviously travels immensely, are you saying his message doesn't merit that travel?

No, I don't think it does. I think it stands in the context of his efforts to promote conservation. Good for you for riding a bike, but in the long run Gore is going to have done a lot more good. And bad for you for making stuch a stupid non-point.

Okay, you can delete the thread now.

It's probably also important to note that at least for the production and marketing of his movie, Gore and the production company have pledged to be carbon neutral. Use of some fossil fuels is of course unavoidable these days, so they are counteracting that use by investing in an equal amount of clean energy.

Soooo, if we do something about global warming, Al Gore will stop causing it?

Awesome. Let's get to work.

The planes would fly whether Mr. Gore was on them or not. It'll use a shade more fuel having him on board, true, but not much.

It's also worth pointing out that his traveling is spreading a message; it's a cost with a potential benefit.

A company that's in bad financial shape will often spend money to save money. This is called 'investment'. Using fuel to try to save fuel is exactly the same thing.

The fact that Al Gore is a huge consumer of the fuels he is condemning stands by itself.

It stands by itself as an indicator of the fact that we have developed no reasonable alternatives. He could use maglev trains powered by wind, solar or nuclear to go about the business of promoting change...

...gee, no he couldn't, because, gosh, those means don't exist! Golly wilikers, maybe something should be done about that! But who will promote this cause? Gosh, not Al, he's evil because he goes around promoting the cause using the means available!

By the way, looking at your commenting history, you seem to trot out the protestors are just doing it for money line a lot. Has it occurred to you that the real money -- by many, many orders of magnitude -- is all on the other side?
