Aw, the poor girl's been under fire for her looks since day one. I think her detractors are really just jealous because the girl is so damn beautiful. *sigh*

The only thing more vapid and stupid than pop culture crap like Brittany Spears are the people like Mr. Blackwell, and Joan Rivers, who CRITIQUE the way people dress.

The only thing more vapid and stupid than Doug's comments is his instance on being a snobby know-it-all. Why can't teenagers just be teenagers? Or must we all be fun hating, puffy snobs like Doug? Sorry that everybody doesn't measure up to dry brand of intellectualism.
Man, get a life and let people be. How is she hurting you anyway? What's so wrong with having a little bit of fun and listening to some feel-good music. She's not my cup of tea, but I know a lot people that do like her music and her look. What ever happened to live, and let live?

I'm not stopping anyone from raising their point of view, I'm just expressing mine. If that makes me public enemy #1 than that's just fine with me. I think that too many people feel that they are above the rest of us and get their jollies by shooting down others. Just trying to keep those types honest. If you really had a problem with Britney Spears, or music acts like her, and want to act like snob, you'd be better off just not listening to her music. No one forces you listen to her. You, this must a shock to you, have the power to turn the radio dial, change TV channels, or put in your music in your own CD play.

Again I ask, who does this hurt you?

You forgot to mention her bigoted views, her use of the title "Dr." despite her lack of applicable qualifications, and her endless parrotting of trite phrases and "quick fix solutions" among other things. C'mon man, quality is job #1.

To paraphrase Dennis Miller, Schleisinger deserves to be called a "Doctor" as much as Elvis deserved his black belt.

"Dr." Laura holds a doctorate in physiology. She's a glorified P.E. teacher.

LOL, optamystic. My friends in the academe generally only call each other (or other people) Dr. So-and-So when they're doing official academic things. I know plenty of Ph.Ds, and only the most pathetic ones really insist on being called "Dr." all the time.Slightly off-topic, but for those of you who, like me (and aaron, perhaps?), think people who make their living off their physical appearance are fair game, you might enjoy popbitch.com's weekly newsletter. At least a third of the content is UK pop-centric, but it's still really funny. :)

(Going way off thread) Aaron, I have no problem with Dr. Laura Schlesinger using her rightfully earned title, generally. However, by calling herself "Dr." on the air, and dispensing advice in the manner that a psychologist might, she is misrepresenting her credentials to the vast audience that doesn't realize that she is not a clinical psychologist, or anything of the sort. The title "Dr." is little more than a hook, providing merely a patina of legitimacy.

(lurching back on thread)I never realized that Blackwell had anything nice to say about celebrity fashion until I read that last paragraph of the article. Too bad that aspect gets little mention.

However, she is a licensed family counselor, so though the doctorate is not in a psychological field, she is trained and capable to treat people in a counseling capacity.
