Sometimes, viral marketing happens by accident. Pilot makes emergency landing with the plane's controls in one hand and a snake in the other.

So there's a movie about snakes on a plane coming out? Snakes? On a motherfucking plane?

There's a movie about snakes on a plane coming out? That is funny. I saw a story this morning that there really was a snake on a plane! OMG, I think I will post it to Metafilter. That will be hilarious!

I like how the clip art shows some sort of rattlesnake, when for all practical purposes it could have been a garter snake. Press was apparently too lazy to even find that snapshot the guy posed for.

And on another vein -- what if this was staged as part of the marketing plan? I bet a lot of pilots would do this for $1000, under the table, with a pet store snake even if declaring the emergency was a bit illegal.

It's not just about using the search engine. If something is a recent news story, check backwards two or three days to make sure someone else didn't post it. Jeez!
