O'Reilly: you got to love the guy. He is so conservative, and has every right to be, but tells the audience over and over that he is objective and sides only with truth and beauty. I gave up on watching him. Gave up on most commentators on tv. Films only. Talk shows: that way lies madness

The "best thing [you've] seen today, or maybe even this
week"? You don't get out much, do you?

Still, I'm glad that the Fox network exists, so that
people who have no marketable talents or skills, like
O'Reilly, can make a living instead of trying to
squeegee my car windows at red lights.

Um, did I miss a memo? What's with the tiaka-bashing in this thread? S/he's never been a troll and while I don't give two hoots about some guy that always makes me think of Tim O'Reilly.

It's just a link, and to a reasonably amusing clip of some guy making an ass of himself at that.

I've actually just gotten done reading O'Reilly's book, which someone gave me for Christmas. The guy didn't strike *me* as a loon, or even overly conservative, at all...

*My* complaint is that we seem to keep linking to a live page, not a hitorical page.

I just finished his book as well. He's no conservative. His political beliefs are all over the map; mentioning any given issue could find him at any point on the ideological spectrum. He especially has a hangup about class, one so strong that it would be outright socialist if only his solution wasn't "$#%# 'em, work harder and beat 'em at their own game." I think once Bush gets in, he's going to end up bashing that administration just as much as this one.

O'Reilly's pro-gun control, anti-death penalty, believes in global warming and is for the legalization of marijuana, according to this New York Observer story. The best part of the article is the quote from a sex scene in O'Reilly's novel: "His hands firmly gripped her buttocks. Ashley could feel his rhythm. First quick, then slow, then quick again. He brought her right up to orgasm, then pulled back."

Incidentally, O'Reilly has been caught in a blatant lie (you can find the link at www.poynter.org/medianews). He claims that he is a registered independant, but in fact he's a registered Republican, and has been since 1994. Caught in this lie, he then claimed that it was a "mistake" and he hadn't noticed. This is absurd because every time he voted (at least 5 times since then) he would have been made aware of his party affiliation. He then claimed that the "mistake" had been fixed, and that he was now an independant, but this is also untrue -- he has to wait until 2002, the next general election, to do so.

Now, given the reporting of these facts, Bill O'Reilly is a blatant and completely unrepentant liar. I now eagerly await the conservative groundswell to get him fired, because "how are we going to explain to the children" that a liar who refuses to admit wrongdoing has a position of importance on a national TV show? I'll step back and let the right-wing wave of indignation wash him right off the air.
