Not as good as "don't copy that floppy."

Why don't they just call the book, "No! Mine!" That would really appeal to toddlers.
posted by effwerd at 7:50 AM on June 23, 2006

Why did I call it a book?

Ah, if only the rights and wrongs of copying others' hard word was as black and white as presented in this cartoon. Both sides of this issue seem to need some perspective.
posted by Mr. Six at 8:35 AM on June 23, 2006

I think that's kind of the point of the cartoon, Mr. Six. It's not a black and white issue - hence it's sillyness...

elpapacito: I was thinking the same thing yesterday when they were discussing the change of age of consent from 14 to 16 in Canada. The advocate kept referring to anyone who might violate those rules as "sexual predators, 'cause who would really ever want to support "sexual predators", but I have a hard time believing everyone who would break that law was an actual "sexual predator".

Matt Baldwin is a funny, funny man. For those who don't know of him, here's his blog (which isn't particularly funny-focused just at the moment but is often hysterical).

Wow. Apparently a few people here missed the joke. Matt is also one of us

I don't get this comment at all. Is it a joke? Misplaced indignation? Justified anger at a real slight? I have no idea. I'll finish my coffee, now.

Also, is anyone else bothered by Teeth Are Not for Biting? 'Cause that is what they're for!

Not for biting People. Lots of little kids seem to pick up on this way of retaliating.

We need to have those Teeth Are Not for Biting books on hand for the inevitable zombie takeover.

Cuz 'Never Share', didn't do it? What the hell kind of childhood did you people have?

I just thought he had a good point about sharing, is all.

I mean, when I share data with someone, BOTH of us have it. if I share a Tonka truck with another kid, then only HE has it.

And yes, I think the mutant cat thing before that gives it away too. Poor Kitties.

Oh, Christ; I just realized that like the first ten people posting to this thread didn't get the joke.

What has happened to my Metafilter!
posted by mr_roboto at 3:22 PM on June 23, 2006

I think they got the joke by not getting it. Metameta.

What's wrong with Scott Adams text adventures.? When I was shorter, they were the best thing in the world on the TRS-80. Keep your pilfered copies of Spiderman II, a tape to tape player and a copy of "Voodoo Castle" used to shiver my timbers something wicked.

I'd like to point out that I got the joke, but wish to remind people of the greatness of the film that I was required to watch in class called "Don't Copy That Floppy"

Wait.. My mp3 files are mutated kittens with green fur and four eyeballs? I had no idea! I drove Lindsay Lohan to drugs? I'm a monster! How can I make amends? ..Go see another Jim Carrey movie and purchase "Wedding Crashers" on DVD? ..uh. Y'know, being a monster is starting to sound pretty good.
