Wow! I never knew!

As it turns out, YouTube has a "Most Viewed" page. And if you're bored with that, there's plenty over at their Top Favorites page. Or maybe you just want to know what people are linking to.

This post was deleted for the following reason: don't abuse MeFi to make your point

There's also this place called Metafilter which, lately, goes thru all the videos on YouTube and picks the wildest and craziest ones...

but seriously, why is this here..?

And if you're bored with IMDB, why not try its search function? That's right, you can actually search for specific movies!

As it turns out, we have a special section of the site for posts like this one.

Nice tag, btw. My namesake would approve.

Another way to phrase that would be, "A ridiculous proportion of posts here are video links." What does the site hosting those files have to do with anything?

Just Like Ann Coulter

YouTube does happen to be our latest internet overlord, but hopefully that $12 million a month they are burning through without a business model means normal MeFi service will return soon.

Take it to Meta.
posted by euphorb at 2:11 PM on June 25, 2006

i need to ask my fellow metafilterites for some advice on my next fpp ... seeing as we've discussed ann coulter so much, does anyone think it would be appropriate for me to post her website, either as a "best of the web" type post or a snarky protest post?

i will abide by your decision ...

Brilliant. I want to play too:

As it turns out, The New York Times has a "Most Blogged" page. And if you're bored with that, there's plenty of Iraq News over at their World page. Or maybe you just want to know what people are emailing to one another.

I see visions of mkultra, tied to a rack, forced to watch Ann Coulter on YouTube, telling it like it is, on an infinite loop. File this under the Ironic Punishment Dept.

Assinine. Whether or not you like youtube links, it's not like no-one is aware that some folks don't like them. Basically you're posting here because there's been so many posts about the issue in MetaTalk and you haven't gotten what you want? Nice.
posted by freebird at 2:19 PM on June 25, 2006

I like the YouTube posts. I mean, I'm not going to go and w through the millions of videos there, so I like that somebody points out the good ones here.
Sure they don't have the same intellectual rigour as the posts some people make to Metafilter, but it's usually still pointing to something worth looking at for a minute or two.
posted by Flashman at 2:22 PM on June 25, 2006

The best part about this jole is that a user named WhipSmart didn't get it.

There's this stuff called air. You can't see it, but if you inhale it enters your lungs and keeps you from doing this thing called dying. Dying's something that really deserves its own link on MetaFilter, because it's the most common killer of human beings on this planet. People should know about it. Breaking the skin with a sharp object can lead to excessive bleeding (this red stuff leaks out of ya which is called blood I think) which can cause death. It's really cool mkultra you should try it, but be sure to read all the surgeon general warnings about death first before you do.

We should perhaps give mkultra the benefit of the doubt. This is probably an attempt at satire, or maybe zany madcap humor... Or we could all just lynch him that may be fun. Not that I'm encouraging lynching, cuz oftentimes in the past when I try to get people to gang up on some jackass on the Internet it invariably backfires and people start picking on me when I was actually trying to point at other people we should make fun of. Not quite sure how that ever transpires to be perfectly honest. I'm like "isn't that guy stupid? hahaha" and then everyone else is like, "well we thought he was stupid but now you're stupid," and I'm like "no i'm not this isn't funny anymore guys quit pickin on me!" And then it's years of counseling and tequila shots. But I'm not bitter.

How about if I started making front page posts of linkage to The Lost Experience videos. Would that be acceptable behavior? I been hanging out at MeFi for years and I still can't do a FPP. Why??? Cuz I'd do something STUPID like post a YouTube link, AND I WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO GET AWAY WITH IT. That's why. How come these other bozos get away with it? I'm gonna go find lyrics to Hoobastank and post it to the front page. That'll learn ya.
