I know a girl who is completely phobic of buttons. Not buttons like in an elevator, but buttons that you use to fasten shirts. I don't understand what could be scary about a button, but apparently they are pretty darn frightening to some people.

Maybe the holes in the buttons are like little sinister eyes staring out at you or something.

this is stupid on so many levels.

why is she being subjected to this? why is she agreeing to be subjected to this? this is good YouTube, but terrible TV and the near the bottom of the worst of the web. I saw this on boingboing last week - wtf??

I can imagine the uproar if some other - more legitimate - phobia was unleashed on a person: spiders, cats, snakes, clowns. this could have been comical, but it is merely pitiful.

she looks genuinely frightened, and I don't get the point of her being on that show. was she seeking some miracle cure? was Maury seeking a miracle boost to his ratings?

She has to be faking it just so she can get on TV.

Now, why they'd want to put her faking on on TV, and why somebody would want the people of MeFi to see that she faked it to get on TV are all open questions.

Those questions aside though, I don't believe her reaction is even close to genuine.
