It looked lame at first, but then I laughed out loud for the rest of it. Thanks for the chuckle.

So what's everyone's problem with youtube, anway? It's never fried my harddrive or otherwise ruined my shit. Is there something I'm missing? please, I'd love to know.

Also, if you're not a cat person, why put time into telling everyone? don't follow the link, or take some sensitivity training. Barring that, buy a kitten.

I'm a cat person and thought that the idea ran out of steam about halfway through. Too much emphasis on the commentary/"real" UFC footage, and not enough cats flipping out and attacking each other.

"Everyone's" problem with YouTube is that if Metafilter is supposed to be a little more diverse, intellectual, challenging, esoteric, literate, and obscure than Fark, best of YouTube, BoingBoing, etc, even the front page of the NYTimes site. You're supposed to try harder than that. And the way that Metafilter maintains this standard is by members bitching and moaning when the posts are less than stellar.

As for your suggestion I take sensitivity training or getting a kitten, first, and I mean this in the nicest, kindest, most sensitive way possible, stfu, and please stick around. I'm a big pussycat compared to some other folks around here who eat whole kittens and metafilter newbies for breakfast. It gets quite entertaining.

I like the YouTube posts. jonson, in particular, seems to have mastered the one link YT post.

I think cats are pretty cool. Never owned one until a year ago. Can't imagine now why I never did.

All that said, I thought this video was a colossal piece of crap, and I've happily sat through any number of stupid cat videos that made me laugh. Since when are critical comments not an integral part of MeFi?
posted by docpops at 6:32 PM on July 3, 2006

Now that was awesome. I love how as the fish get bigger, it takes each cat longer and longer to figure out that A) yes, it is a fish, B) yes, it's dead, and C) no, you're not dreaming.

And the answer is: There is no fish too big for a cat to carry, even if it means you have to eat it right there.
posted by loquacious at 6:32 PM on July 3, 2006

if Metafilter is supposed to be a little more diverse, intellectual, challenging, esoteric, literate, and obscure

It's Monday night in the middle of a holiday weekend. Maybe some people aren't necessarily in the mood to talk about situationism, Asian stereotypes of other Asians, Iraq, Bush, radical Islamic critiques of the World Cup, etc. Or maybe you could, you know, lighten up a little bit. Relax. It's a holiday weekend in America and Canada. It's summertime in the Northern Hemisphere. Weather's nice. The sun's out. No need to get agitated.

I'm a big pussycat compared to some other folks around here who eat whole kittens and metafilter newbies for breakfast. It gets quite entertaining.

Please allow me to pause a minute while I quake in my sneakers.

Now, all kidding aside, tula, I have looked at your profile and you seem to have posted a grand total of one link in the last year and a half. Maybe, just maybe, you might want to take some more risks, post a few links, and run the risk of doing something that might move a complete stranger to say something snarky. Or maybe you can choose to be snarky and nasty yourself. Seems to be less risk there.

In any event, if you liked the link, if you got a chuckle from it, good for you. I was happy to have shared it with you. And if you didn't like it . . . oh, well. Maybe you'll like the next one.

Bullshit. YouTube is just a video hosting site. You might as well say you don't like text. If you don't like specific video posts, that's fine, but blaming YouTube as a whole for not being intellectual or obscure or ___ enough doesn't make any sense.

No kidding. My favorite Matt post was redneck surfing, a fark (gasp!) link. Do as I say, he says, not as I do....

Jason--exactly! These people are mean. I'm scared of most of them. There were a couple comments to my crappy fp post that were so snarky they were almost immediately deleted by our gentle admin, (but not before I saw them!) But my post sucked. I've rarely snarked on the quality of a fpps, this was an exception. I just really loved that fishing cat blog, and you got my hopes up for something even better. Sorry for the snark.

Whoa, nelly, nobody's saying YouTube isn't great fun, and I didn't mean to imply that fpps are supposed to be all of those things--just one: the funniest, the weirdest, the most interesting, the latest--they used to call it the "best of the web". But single link fpps to YouTube video have gotten a lot of complaints. I didn't write the any of the damn guidelines for a good post, but I will fight to the death to maintain them. Or something.

The UFC link was pretty good. Since I'd missed it, the fishing cat link was awesome. However, after sooo much fretting over the state of the nation and world affairs, zerokey's link rules.

The vociferous anti-cat persons just need some one or thing to hate.

As with all such little ones, hating makes them feel like something big.

Stop being so defensive, jason's_planet. If people don't like your post, there's no need to lash out with "I don't see YOU posting anything better, NOOB!" comments. Just let the comments flow where they will, and flag the worst ones if you really need to.

I thought it was a lame video too, regardless of where it's hosted. It's like one of those godawful SNL sketches the just keeps going for twelve minutes after the premise stopped being chuckle-worthy.
