Funny concept, but too slick in execution -- it feels like I'm being marketed too.

If there's something here beyond the crappy video, at least give some context in the post. All I see is 10 seconds of crappy video and no reason to watch any more.

Is that Calvin from Beat Happening on drums?
posted by OmieWise at 10:49 AM on July 21, 2006

Oh God, not the context-monsters again.

The context is "Look at this. It's a song... about Myspace. It's really bad". Happy now? I was hoping people could figure that out, but apparently not.

Why no love for Gym Class Heroes on Mefi? Are they too slick to be indie? They certainly have an indie label.

Am I the only one who appreicates this FPP? I liked the video. This is certainly YouTube at its best, aside from all those hillarious videos of some idiot kid getting maimed trying to do something cool on camera.

Ok, I'm relatively new here as a paying customer, but I'd like to move that single link posts to youtube, without any context, be banned.

This isn't best of the web, it's not even best of youtube. I'm pretty sure it's not even best of video-that-a-group-of-people-have-seen-in-the-last-15 hours.

You're so new here that you have no idea that we've been over this again and again. And yet, no matter how many people bitch about youtube posts, they still happen. Funny, huh?

Is that Thom Yorke on drums?

And what kind of parents would name their kid "Thom" with a last name like "Yorke", anyways? What, was there some kind of buy-one-consonant/vowel-get-one-free sale in England in the late 60s? Enquiring minds want to know.

All sarcasm aside, I actually found that amusing. The production value was just high enough, and it really didn't feel commercial, if you will, but just a good-natured, fun video.

Why no love for Gym Class Heroes on Mefi? Are they too slick to be indie?

Honestly, I thought that was awful and was prepared to write them off altogether (although I wasn't going to bitch about it).

But since even my favorite musicians have released crap from time to time, I checked out their other tracks and found that I liked both Papercuts and Cupid's Chokehold. Since I hadn't previously heard of Gym Class Heroes, thanks for the fpp.

In terms of context, so it was a song about MySpace...with the number of users, I'm sure there's probably dozens of MySpace inspired songs already. Since they're probably all awful, maybe we can make this the last?

Or we could compile each and every one right here on mefi by posting each of them with the tag "awfulmyspaceinspiredsong"!

What? No good?

Can we forget the whole "I'm too good for one-link YouTube post" thing and focus on how bad this dude's flow is? And the fact that this dorky band is barely audible through that "Yo I downloaded Fruity Loops from PirateBay" production? And how I'm pretty sure I was sleep walking last night, wandered into my local Walmart to buy the cheapest DV camera I could find, and filmed this video before going back to bed?
