Thanks for this - answers my pre-caffeinated navel staring contemplation of what to do with my artless life question, this morning. posted by strawberryviagra at 4:15 PM on July 27, 2006
They actually did a pretty piss-poor job stuffing that mouse. posted by bob sarabia at 4:19 PM on July 27, 2006
The comments under the oil painting tutorial are awesome. It's like a hipster civil war. posted by bardic at 4:37 PM on July 27, 2006
Much as I hate to snark, that was a shitty mouse-stuffing. posted by Alvy Ampersand at 4:41 PM on July 27, 2006
The rest of it made up for it though. posted by bob sarabia at 4:57 PM on July 27, 2006
That was a really poor job they did on the mouse.
But the joke is on them. Since they didn't use any preservatives on the skin, it will start to rot and smell and/or get infested by beetles or moths. posted by MonkeySaltedNuts at 5:58 PM on July 27, 2006
The one-sheet comic zine trick is awesome. A few years ago I came across that trick and made a few ChristmasCards [PDFs, self links].
I think more stuff like this would be good to help people make art. What if the Pimp Elfwood (posted here) people took the time to talk about what they were doing when they were "improving" the artwork? Kind of a "each one, teach one" kind of thing. Would we have more ghetto paintings, fantasy art, shmaltzy holiday cards? Sure! Would that be so bad? posted by wobh at 7:25 PM on July 27, 2006
Shannon Wheeler, creator of Too Much Coffee Man, has described how to make the one-sheet mini comic a number of times.
I'm an oil painter and although I work on gessoed board, I don't know anyone who stretches their canvas after completing the painting. posted by oraknabo at 7:41 PM on July 27, 2006
