Tom Alciere Resigns - As a followup to the thread from a few weeks ago. This is the newly-elected New Hampshire Representative who advocated cop-killing and wife-beating.

*sniff* I'll miss the funny lil' guy.

I share many of his core beliefs about personal freedom, and your right to defend it.

It's too bad he resigned, I would have liked to follow his career.

You'd think he would have been more prepared for criticism and attacks considering the controverial nature of his views.

Yet another victory for the bullying police.

Alciere said when he resigned that he might run in the special election to replace him. (?!?) On Thursday, he said he would not run.

I agreed with some of his policies too, but this guy has got serious problems...

Part of me wants to ask why the sudden changes of heart by this guy, as if perhaps someone "got to him" somehow. But the other part, that says "he's just a wacko," wins out.

Bad cops suck, but to call for the wholesale murder of police? Nuts.

What impresses me about Tom Alciere is that he's so thoughtlessly human. I don't think he realistically planned to organize a mass movement to murder police officers; he just got disgruntled about police brutality and started thoughtlessly ranting about it on a newsgroup. From the sound of it, these things didn't even occur to him as a potential factor in peoples' opinion of him until the media lept on top of him. He seemed to revel in being a hotrod of controversy for a while, but ultimately didn't have the gutso to actually go through with holding office for very long.

I dunno- in a time when politics is so, well, political, it's heartening to see somebody in office with all the savvy and political knowhow of a cinder block.
