Don't know if this counts as a double, but yes, it is hilarious.

Well basically I thought the best approach would be to repeat exactly what you told me in the first call, but shuffle the words around a bit.

Wow! If I wasn't such a fucking hack I'd resent that thinly veiled kowtowing.

Isn't this thing about 7 years old? I find it hard to believe it's not a double. Still funny, though.

ouch. Way funny.

This is crazy old. Here's a link from 2002 to the SEQUEL to this movie. If it's not a double, it's possibly the most "linked to in comments without ever being FPP'd" item in Metafilter history.

quin, thx for pointing out. The FPP you linked is not the same, but this comment from aer4v has the same video, more details about the production team and link to the complete DVD on Amazon.

I liked.

Great FPP, if you don't mind me kissing your ass in this comment because I have nothing meanful to add to this thread!

I particularly appreciate the inclusion of Rob Corddry.

...by which I meant Colin Mochrie. I am mixing up my bald comics at the moment.

I have nothing to add, but will attempt to be witty and irrevrant, yet fail miserably while making several speling mistakes.

Metafilter: a disgustingly overused blue-green transfer look.

Dialogue seems reminiscent of Schizopolis. What originated this self-reflexive honesty style? It's funny.

Here is Metafilter's attempt at giving a similar treatment to itself (one of my all time favorite threads).

Don't worry ed your lady friend will be with you shortly, in fact I saw her to the cab. She really is rather good.

I dunno, but another example would probably be Title of the Song by DaVinci's Notebook, where the lead singer similarly sings a description of what he sings. If that makes any sense.

...Declaration of my feelings for you
Elaboration on those feelings
Description of how long these feelings have existed
Belief that no one else could feel the same as I

Reminiscence of the pleasant times we've shared
And our relationship's perfection
Recounting of the steps that lead to our love's dissolution
Mostly involving my unfaithfulness and lies...

I love how that clip has basically every Canadian commercial television actor in it. Colin Mochrie sells cookies, the 'director' sells banking services, the blond woman sells yogourt, 'bob' sells everything that requires 'everyguy/dad', all over and over during canadian commercial breaks.

Well, it may be old as the hills, but I'd never seen it, and I thought it was pretty damn funny. Thanks!

"the blond woman sells yogourt"

I thought it was Sharon Stone for a minute there...

psmealey writes "Here is Metafilter's attempt at giving a similar treatment to itself (one of my all time favorite threads)."

...and a more recent thread that does more or less the same thing.

Kololo: Additionally, doesn't that VP guy also star in Who's Line Is It Anyway?

Actually, I don't know why singled Kololo out. That was a comment to the group in general. Ahh, sunday afternoon blues.

I work in the advertising business, and played about 5 minutes of this DVD for a prominent director when he was in my office..he feigned laughter, but it was painfully obvious to me that deep down, it offended him...at the very least he didn't find it ANYWHERE near as amusing as me and the rest of my colleagues find it.

I uncomfortably stopped the DVD after said 5 minutes, when it was obvious that we wouldn't be sharing in the level of yuk-age that it would have engendered with any normal human with a sense of humor.

He didn't even find the "hackneyed blue green transfer look" funny. It's one of the many reasons why I hate being in the advertising business.

If you liked this you might like another short film called "The Deal" written by Lewis Black. Sadly, regrettably, etc. there is no video that I can find online.

You can, however, find it on this short story collection, which coincidentally has a story called "Seven Gates" starring David Huband who played Bob Willikers in "Truth in Advertising".
