A news report I saw said that they'd done genetic testing on the carcass and found that it was a dog/wolf half-breed.

SCDB. I think that's the same as the reference in the linked article to an incident of an animal in Maine that couldn't be identified. I'd be surprised if they had DNA results on this one just yet, and if they had it would have been in the lede.

I also read in a couple other articles that genetic testing showed this was a dog/ wolf mix. I once had a dog that was dog/ wolf. They are pretty common. This one must have inherited a wolf's character with the body of a large breed of dog. Maybe a Chou Chou?

I think it's just a mutt. It looks like a chow-something mix, if I had to guess. ...and as I went over to Cryptomundo to get a link to the discussion from yesterday, I find this update:

I'll be looking into that." Coleman was the only expert on the scene Wednesday as the controversy over the unidentified animal reached levels bordering on hysteria. His early opinion: That the beast was possibly a chow, a breed of dog, that had turned feral.

That's enough of this story for me. Seriously, don't they have fucking dogs in Maine? The big monstrous accomplishment of this poor thing was that it killed a 16 year old Doberman. A fucking 5 year-old in a wheelchair could kill a 16 year-old Doberman.
