Ashcroft sings! Actually, seems like it was 4 or 5 years ago, but hey, it's still catchy. MP3 contained at link to TheSmokingGun.com

At first I thought you were referring to Richard Ashcroft, former lead singer of the [now defunct] Verve. Confusion ran rampant "of COURSE he sings". Call it the problem of being a Canadian music-snob with brit-pop not us-senatery on the mind

This is not a surprise. His bio clearly states that he was a member of the Congressional Gospel Quartet throughout his senatorial term.

I also have a tape of him singing lead on a swinging gospel ditty, backed by my sister's college concert choir. It's a wild little song, lemme tell ya.

Further review of the link (I was getting DNS failures last night when I posted) reveals that the MP3 is the self-same song that Ashcroft sang with my sister's choir. A real toe-tapper, but cheesy (even as far as southern gospel goes) lyrics bring the overall rating down a few points.
