The picture if him actually dangling the baby in front of the alligator is a photoshop job, correct? He was holding the child in the other arm.
Pained though I am by cheesy tributes and revisionist nostalgia about the recently deceased, I wish that kind of disinformation would go away.

Not the first, nor the last. He has quite the penchant. I'd love to see a running tally on deleted postroad fpps.

OK, I realize he had a lot of fans and everything, but really...John Lennon's "Imagine"? Isn't that a bit more gravitas than the situation warrants?
Me, I would have gone with Ringo Starr and "Octopus's Garden."

It took me all of three minutes to get completely fed up with this story, but it seems to never end. You'd think someone important had died.

Do we need yet another Steve Irwin thread? The other one had over four hundred replies and was, y'know, cool and stuff.

I was hoping it to finish up with a screaming stingray or zombie Sterwin.

The response his death has gotten seems to have caught everyone off guard. I want to say something about the effect of being genuine within a post-modern world, but I'd probably busk it.
There is one thing, though - without ever having met the man, or even watched his show, I'd match anything you'd care to wager that his dad is wrong about him not wanting the state funeral. Irwin lived and died, literally, for conservation, and I think would've loved a high-publicity event if it could have been turned into a vehicle for that.

Please god, kill another celebrity today so we can move this dead putz out of the spotlight. How about one of those right-wing country music stars? The tributes for Toby Kieth would be awesome, and you know it.

I thought it was beautiful.
I can only hope I receive such a tribute when I'm impaled by a stingray (and that day *will* come).
Seriously, this reminds me of all the unbearable wedding photo/video montages that seem to have replaced inappropriate and rambling speeches by drunk uncles.

Shamed, I am.
That decade is obscured in a haze of cheap rum & Coke. No wonder no one would dance with me.

Here...let's do this right.
Link to every (well, almost every) news article that says "died today". We can just make fun of everyone in this thread. I call dibs on the one about "Man Who Convinced Mistress To Kill Wife Dies".
but the 2 year old girl and the skateboarder are up for grabs still.
now...get the hell off my lawn!
