Disturbing. This reminds me of the man who, for years, has been standing outside of McGill University in Montreal holding a large (say, 3'6" wide by 5' tall) sign that contains an ever-changing (and always incoherent) rant about the Jewish General Hospital... and cites biblical passages. Should we pay attention to these people? Do they have legitimate grievances? What can they realistically expect to gain from their actions?

Since no one seems to know what this is all about, I think that the only thing that we can reasonably do as responsible webizens is come up with a bunch of wild-ass conjecture. his attorneys should inform him that his activities, albeit constitutional, will not help persuade a family court to rule in his favor. I feel for the guy and I understand that he perceives an injustice. However, society really doesn't give a rat's ass when it comes to the crazy. There's a fine line between optimism and stupity.

When I worked in Downtown Seattle (for 5 years), there was a middle aged man who used to stand kitty-corner from the Federal Courthouse on Fifth Avenue with a large sign that said "Be a slave? Get a Lawyer!". He was there every single day for at least three of those years. He didn't look homeless or anything, he was well groomed and scrubbed, wore fleece on rainy days, and never said anything to anyone. I had often wondered WTF, but never had the courage or gumption to ask. He stopped showing up one day, and I never saw him again.

There have been custody fights over the kids and Ms. Vahabinazhad has needed protection orders to protect herself against her upset husband. I really wanted to link to Don't Call Me Crazy on the Fourth of July, but the site seems to be down. It's a short documentary on Robert Lansberry, a homeless veteran of (IIRC) the Korean war who could be regularly seen in Pittsburgh with a sandwich board asking the government to stop stealing his mail. The filmmakers filed a FOIA request and received his FBI file, which consisted primarily of 400 pages worth of Mr. Lansberry's intercepted mail. The FBI's interest in him is never really explained. So it's true what they say — just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they're not out to get you.

For what it's worth (in a Forrest Gump sort of way), I actually met the original tinfoil hat guy. It was in 1998. He hung out in midtown, handing out screeds (threw them out) about the CIA, satellites and mindcontrol. He wore the original motherf*ckin' tinfoil hat, a fedora wrapped in aluminum foil. He beats out this Vahabinhzad guy by a mile, althought I would love to hear a converstion between the two. The Walking guy is pretty cool.

I see this guy all the time. I read the divorce case info online, but it's hard to get any details with only document titles. I'm surprised no investigative blogger's gone to look at the file in the Daley Center, anyone could. I thought about it one day, but I really don't care that much. And he's definitely crazy, not a marketing thing. He's just got the air about him.
