Pandora is your own personal radio generator. It works like this..type in your favorite musical artist or song and the player will first play that song or artist and then automatically find similar music. You can create up to 100 personal radio stations. I typed in Jason Mraz and got "Life is Wonderful" followed by "Dreaming in Red" by The Calling, "Welcome Home" by Idlewild, and "Not only Numb" by Gin Blossoms.

So, my problem with Pandora is that I enter Radiohead and within 10 songs it is playing Limp Bizkit. Music Map is a much, much better tool for discovering music and relations between groups and genres.

Pandora is good for some things, not for others.
For example, it's really good at picking out classic R&B.
It can learn what shoegaze is, if you put in like 30 bands and 30 songs.
It still has no idea what psychedelic is, and trust me, I've tried to teach it.

It's EDM selection is fairly poor.
lastfm is much better.

No! all you people complaining about genres.
It tries to ignore genres to figure out what you actually like about the song!!!!
That is the beauty of Pandora. It separates styling from content. Maybe you don't like Limp Bizcut but maybe you'll like this song because it has the same tempo and chord progression style as a song you said you liked.

I've been using last.fm for over a year now, and, well the results are mixed.
Bad: quite a few subpar recommendations come in when I play "recommended radio" ... the intelligence just isn't what it should be.
Good: on the flipside, "neighbor radio" is a great tool for checking out what similar-minded folks are hearing.
Maybe I'll have to check out Pandora or Music Map...
