A real loss. One-Dime Blues and Carolina Breakdown will be added to this evening's rotation.

Very sad. I was inspired to learn to fingerpick guitar after hearing her version of Railroad Bill.

Old NPR story on her life.

Seeing Etta perform was always my highlight at Merlefest.

Rest in peace.

I wish I had seen her perform live.

This is sad. The piedmont blues never got as much recognition as that from the Delta or Chicago, but on moving here 8 years ago, I was surprised at how many of the old-school types were still around. Meeting her and Pink Anderson's son count as two of this white boy's "blues moments." Both were great, gracious people, who even tried not to laugh as I clumsily tried to pick a few tunes. I will miss her and her presence greatly, I'll always have her music, though.
