Is there a site that does this for Family Circus?

Well, I thought it was funny.

This Marmaduke? Is he somehow related to Ceiling Cat?

permanent-monday.blogspot.com/

Similar, but good.

ClaudiaCenter writes 'Funny, clap clap clap.'

Shouldn't that be: "Funny, clap, clap"?

I was wondering the same thing peter was wondering:

Similar, but good.

That permanent Monday site reads similarly to other writings I've seen on the web where Germans are attempting to explain humor to each other. The problem with it as a work of humor is the fact that subject of the discourse (Jim Davis's strip: Garfield) is universally acknowledged to be dull and unfunny. Since we are in on the joke already, the moment of the laugh is lost almost before one is finished reading the first line. Such a treatment would work better if one were attempting to deconstruct a Bill Hicks or David Cross monologue.

I wish someone would do this for Beetle Bailey. I've never understood the inherent comedy in that one.

why did anyone think that marmaduke NEEDED an explanation?

I loathe Marmaduke, but love this site.

On a related note, check out Arbuckle, Garfield without the Garfield.

"The comic changes dramatically when one removes the thought bubbles.

Garfield changes from being a comic about a sassy, corpulent feline, and becomes a compelling picture of a lonely, pathetic, delusional man who talks to his pets. Consider that Jon, according to Garfield canon, cannot hear his cat's thoughts. This is the world as he sees it. This is his story."

Some examples to get you started.

I wonder if the New Yorker Caption Contest "solution" would also work for Marmaduke.

I love it. The matter-of-fact ones are the best.

If you're into this, make sure to check out The Comics Curmudgeon (previously FPP'd on MeFi, but I'm too lazy to find it).

I've been following this site since Day 1 and I must say that the recent five are some of the best yet. Hilarious.

The related Freudian interpretation of Marmaduke brings to mind Melissa Gilbert's recent cameo appearance on tv show Nip/Tuck.

Marmaduke is dying.

Yeah, what did happen to That's One Dysfunctional Dog? Is it still out there on some Wayback thing, perhaps?

I read "5000 words or less" and clicked hoping to see a daily 5000 word analysis of this comic, as anything less still leaves me confused as to its humor.
Alas,this is still [good].

If someone could do this for Boston and Shaun*, my life would generally be a less traumatic experience.

* - Warning: This site is just plain awful.

I second The Comics Curmudgeon.

I'll also throw Comics I Don't Understand out there.

Also: Crap everytime about They'll Do it Every Time which I never paid attention to but is the most surreal strip and What's so funny, not Golf about the fact that on any given day half the strips on the comics page seem to be about golf.

Thanks for the link. I would expect nothing less from the man behind The Mathletes. That dude followed the comedy rainbow straight to the pot.

Crikey - that Arbucle site is the same tailsteak who did 1/0, which I previously got creeped out by right through to the final panel.

Also previously!

And I don't read Joe Mathlete daily, but every time I come back to it I have a great time. Deadpan is good stuff. I mean, come on:

Marmaduke has been in the peanut butter.

The worst comic strip going - even worse than Marmaduke, For Better or Worse, or even Garfield - is the wretched Fred Bassett. The suck is never ending on that strip.
