It's unfortunate that Eric Prydz is only known for Call On Me. He's an incredibly talented producer and runs three quality record labels. Check out his techno releases as Cirez D and his latest Eric Prydz remix of Paolo Mojo - 1983. One thing, also, to keep in mind is that most of these 'crap' 80s remixes are meant to be heard only in the context of a DJ set. Guys like Eric Prydz will play literally for hours without playing a single song recognizable from the radio. They do these remixes so the audience has something accessible that they can still mix in seemlessly with the rest of the music that they play, which is generally better and more serious. If they manage to actually cross-over and make a lot of money, great, but that's rarely why these are done. Most of the bootleg white labels make very little money at all, because they're only released on vinyl, because they can't afford to clear the sample. In the case of call on me, they couldn't clear the sample from the label that owned the original recordings, so they actually paid Steve Winwood to come into the studio to re-record the chorus.

I like the Naval Academy parody better. And that bit at the beginning of the Chemical Brothers "Believe" video... There's a lot of resonance. Is it my imagination or were they riffing on the famous Farrah poster with her outfit? (That is, as well as "Flashdance".) This is some kind of nexus of cultural references if so. Interestingly, the new video was directed by the male star of both, Juan Pablo di Pace. He's put a "behind the scenes" version of "What a Feeling" on YouTube. I play for a different team but he's practically cute enough for me.

goo, I don't think it's possible to graduate from any of the service academies with much extra poundage. Lord_Pall: unsurprisingly, she has a dance workout tape based on the video. She also choreographs for people like Kylie Minogue. (BTW, another reference in the first video -- the overhead shot looks like Kylie's "Slow" (which itself, continuing the cultural references game, seems cribbed from Busby Berkeley by way of Spencer Tunick, plus that famed photograph of St. Tropez).

I saw Perfect for the first time the other day (it was on in the afternoon when I was in bed with a cold, I swear!) and the gym scenes with Jamie Lee Curtis pumping her pelvis in the air made my day. SO funny. If anything, the video clip is tamer and less risible than the original.

Umm, the Hues Corp. was originally the Hughes Corporation but had to change it due to copyright violation (a la Green Jell-o).
