WKYC.com has different video here but it's not working for me. Just watched it. Interesting to see The Daily Show interviewee from the other side. No surprise they didn't include this part in the piece, it's painfully unfunny and the producer is constantly feeding Jason Jones questions. I love The Daily Show and while they obviously manipulate stories for comic value, seeing it from this side made it lose a bit of charm for me. Kind of like listening to The Beatles Anthology.

That was AMAZING. Nice post. I love/hate the Carl Monday stuff -but I think he pushed the thing with Jimmy Slaps-a-lot a bit too far... that's going to haunt that guy for the rest of his life.

I once designed a "Cleveland Steamer" t-shirt wherein I carefully drew the Cleveland skyline as seen from Edgewater Park in illustrator. The shot with Jones in front of the key tower was hilarious, and not just because he was jackin' it.

Another for the "Jones got pwnt" vote. When I saw the TDS, I had wondered why they'd gone so easy on Monday, but it's clear from the subsequent footage that Carl Monday is far too slick for that. To give the devil his due, Carl Monday thinks quick on his feet - quicker than Jones.

Jones so did not get pwnt. Jesus, he's playing a character who's supposed to be naive and starstruck and an idiot. Of course he's like that. And as if Monday never took questions from a producer. Hint: They all do that. Editing helps comedy just as much as it does hack news reporting. I can see why TDS didn't use this part, however. Nothing is less funny than when you're subject tries to pretend he's in on the joke.

It seems pretty clear that his plan was to play that naive starstruck character, but then to slip in a bunch of questions that would make Monday out to be a fool. Jones got owned, not merely because he couldn't fluster Monday, but first and foremost because he simply wasn't funny. Not at all. If you need an editing room to be even slightly humorous, then you're not a comedian. Anyway, he's probably the least funny guy on TDS.

Well I thought he slipped in some good ones. "Carl... what was it again?" I love the crappy microphone he uses. And it's pretty clear from the WKYC clip that they were trying to ambush Jason Jones back. Carl had pat answers and jokes at the ready. But he was flustered when they ambushed him the first time, Jones the second time... it all goes to prove TDS's point, which is that ambushing people is the province of jackasses and hacks. Carl was smart, however, to not act offended by TDS going after him and to answer their questions. Nothing looks worse than when you're trying to hide something.
