This is the Olberman I like. Olberman seems to have two modes, pretending he's John Stewart, or pretending he's Edward R. Murrow. He's bearable pretending to be Stewart, and annoys the hell out of me when he's pretending to be Murrow. I liked this segment when I saw it, but his "special comments" have just been soo affected. He's doing an impersonation, and it just comes across as trying to hard. These jokey segments aren't that funny most of the time, but they're Ok.

Ah the pundits , first they incense Bush policy and all of his doing (and expecially the doing of his backers) isn't but the best possible thing, all others are stupid idiots. "Clearly, I am exercising my freedom of speech in painting _these guys_ as a bunch of frivolous idiots, but If fact-checking reveals I spewed a ton of bullshit, it is ONLY your fault, if you believed me. If you're going to link to crooksandliars, you might as well just hotlink the video files. It's a terrible blog, with no value outside the video clips in mov + wmv. You can't, easily. The clips are protected. Besides, the link to the blog article is helpful for C&L because it often provides context and transcript. I don't think it's supposed to be more than what it is -- a media blog where people go to get video clips. Calling it a "terrible blog" is like calling a bus shelter a terrible banquet hall.

Now that "Stay the Course" is dead, (iced, if you will--an inside job) anyone have an idea on what phrase should go next? "Cut and Run," obviously. "Fight them over there so you don't have to fight them over here" should sleep with the fishes. Anyone else have a candidate for the hit man?

The flip sure seems to be flopping, I'll say that. "Stay the course" is a time-honored rallying cry in politics. But it has always been more a slogan than a strategy, meant to show the steadfastness of the person who shouts it rather than what he actually intends to do. More telling is when staying the course turns into "constantly changing tactics to meet the situation on the ground." That is how President Bush is now describing the battle plan in Iraq. It also pretty neatly sums up what his presidency has come to as he reaches the eve of a midterm congressional election that has turned into a referendum on Bush himself—and on a policy in Iraq that has left him more isolated than at any other point in his presidency... In fact, when it comes to deploying its Executive power, which is dear to Bush's understanding of the presidency, the President's team has been planning for what one strategist describes as "a cataclysmic fight to the death" over the balance between Congress and the White House if confronted with congressional subpoenas it deems inappropriate. The strategist says the Bush team is "going to assert that power, and they're going to fight it all the way to the Supreme Court on every issue, every time, no compromise, no discussion, no negotiation..."

They make bomb. We drive over bomb. They never got past page 5 of the guerilla warfare handbook because they hardly ever needed to alter fucking tactics. You know what "tactics" Bush is "altering?" How to choose which euphemism for "It's all Clintons fault." (This week he chose it with a word jumble. He was inspired from the Halloween issue of HiLites in he took from the dentist office.
