The motherload on The Motherload.

By now I'm sure we've all heard and mourned the news that Google is removing all The Daily Show and The Colbert Report clips from YouTube (previously). Well mourn no longer friends, for you can view pretty much every Colbert Report clip ever featured on The Motherload for free (and legally) by clicking on this handly little hyperlink. And for those who need an online fix of The Daily Show, click here to view around 900 clips that date back to around mid 2002.

Hey that's so gre...

WINDOWS MEDIA PLAYER: INSTALL PLUG-IN

When you have finished installing the Windows Media 9 Plug-in, the video you had selected will be available.

Oohh. Can't I view this on linux? I could do that with YouTube...

This isn't new. Comedy Central has had this Windows-only product available for a long time. I can't use it on my Mac with Safari/Firefox. So this sucks. I could see the clips on YouTube.

Also, this post would have been a better comment to the link posted just the other day [that you linked to].

"Just the other day?" No one would've seen the comment. Just being realistic...

Comedy Central's Motherload is not new. It has always had clips of Colbert and Stewart. So yes, it would have been a good comment to have in the post from the other day.

Or should I have a post that even though Pepsi Blue is no longer available, we can still enjoy regular Pepsi?

Yes, of course it would be too much trouble to actually read a thread from two days ago. We should have a new post for every independent thought, update, further development, and so on.

I just wanted to point out that you can watch Windows Media on OS X. It's slow as heck on my Mac, but that may be because it is a 2000-vintage 400Mhz PowerPC.

Well, this was usefult to me and no, I proabably would not have seen a comment in the thread "just the other day". So thanky jy, Effigy2000.

I thought Youtube videos were unviewable on Linux until Flash 9 for Linux came out a few weeks ago?

You could watch them, but the audio sync was terrible.

Also, on Linux it might be possible using a combination of the Firefox Extension Media Player Connectivity and VideoLAN. The extension should allow you to open the media in an external VLC player. I haven't tested that combination, however.

I do know that you can set up the Media Player Connectivity extension for Firefox on Windows to redirect the media to a streaming capture tool like Net Transfer. You can then download the video clips and watch them at your leisure.

Sadly, the extension doesn't work on Firefox for OS X (not that it matters -- Firefox is dog slow on my old Mac anyway)

Well, this was useful to me and no, I probably would not have seen a comment in the thread "just the other day".

You and the overwhelming majority of other MeFites. No doubt birdherder and Rhomboid are in the habit of continually revisiting threads from 2, 3, 4 or 5 days ago (2 weeks, 3 months?), on the very slim chance that there'll be a new comment to catch, but for those of us who just don't have that kind of time available, a post like this one from Effigy2000 can indeed come in handy. I, too, was glad he posted it.

No, I don't go back and review arbitrary threads, although using the My Comments link does mean that I see replies in old threads that I had participated in.

My point was rather that for the sake of people searching, browsing by tags, or finding threads through yahoo/google, it makes life much easier to have all the information on a given topic in one thread compared to spread out over multiple posts, especially when they are only two days apart. One topic, one thread, I say.

Well, that does put a new spin on it there, leftcoastbob. Oh, god, now I'm so confused...

*goes to Comedy Central site for a few laughs*

And Rhomboid, your clarification (minus the arch sarcastic tone of your first comment) is much appreciated. And I do see your point.
Now I'm really going to Comedy Central, though.

yeah, crappy huge advertising, pop up windows, wmv.... this seems like a solid pr decision. Especially considering the success Colbert had with his green screen light saber segment.

This is a pretty dumbass move on comedy centrals part. They need to setup a custom channel on youtube that gives them a portion of the revenue.
