"You can really taste the chutney!"

Musically, this is less "Thriller" than a huge rip off of Heaven 17's "Fascist Groove Thang", and it only goes to show that there are some languages in which it is impossible to rock.

On a related note, Thriller with Legos.

Have a ghoulish Halloween, everyone!

A bizarre, but highly entertaining derivative work. The choreography is not too bad. He keeps saying 'goli maar', which in Hindi & Urdu literally means 'shoot the bullet', but effictively means 'kill'. The rest of the song, however, is in some South Indian language. Anyone?

Oh yeah, there's all kinds of interesting Thriller stuff you could throw together. But I can honestly say without exaggeration that the original video FPP'd is simply the greatest thing that has ever been filmed, and should not have other links to detract from it's greatness.

My parents will be emailing this link to me next year. Thanks Earbucket!

oncogenesis: Oh, you'll be surprised, we have a lot of rock in Telugu. In fact, I'm just listening to one track right now.

Azaadistani: Telugu, my mother tongue. :-) 'Goli maar' is, doubtless, a weird sort of a reference to 'Beat it'.

General Zubon: Each of India's 18 prominent languages has a full-fledged film industry. Expect to see more versions in some days. :-D

Ambrosia Voyeur: What sort of background information are you interested in? This video was from my school-days, and I happen to be rather dangerously knowledgeable about trivia regarding the lead dancer here. :-)

In summary: there's a lot, A LOT, of MJ influence in 80's pop culture in India. Which is perhaps not surprising, given that VHS videos for Thriller and Dangerous basically surfed the initial wave of video-rentals here.

Actually, I'm thinking the video's been retitled "Killer," as he seems to chant that in English at one point. Perhaps that's what "goli maar" is intended to mean?

I can't get this damn thing out of my head this morning. Goli maar! Goli maar! Goli maar!

I remember Indians being apeshit crazy about Michael Jackson, back in the days when western music was quite limited in terms of what you could find there. I cannot recall the number of times I was asked if I liked him; the followup question being an incredulous "But why not? He is *king of pop*" (head wiggle).

I blame the fact that he did the whole dance routine thing, which would appeal to audiences raised on Bollywood (etc).
