About Those Newspaper Endorsements...

Should we trust newspaper endorsements in our current age of media consolidation? Here in Duluth, Minnesota, I typically valued newspaper endorsements of candidates, because they represented the views of professional journalists well-versed in the political issues facing us who had actively questioned the candidates. Newspaper endorsements may only change one percentage point of the vote, but that's actually a fairly significant impact compared to other factors. At any rate, the purchase of my local daily newspaper by a company more interested in imposing its views on readers than in fostering debate has changed the equation and, in my opinion, harmed the integrity of our paper's endorsement process.

This post was deleted for the following reason: this reads like a personal blog entry. MeFi is about links to the best stuff out there, not a diary.

What is the difference between a company that owns one newspaper and a company that owns three? Fifty? A company or person that publishes their views is to be trusted as much as you feel like trusting that person or company.
