Webb Wins Talk amongst yourselves...

This post was deleted for the following reason: SLBOE. there are a few other election threads open, maybe put this in one of them?

Doesn't Allen have to concede and not elect (pardon the pun) the state-funded recount that would be applicable in an election won by a margin of less than 1%?

Does the AP know something that hasn't been announced yet (i.e. has Allen conceded)?

Shouldn't this post be preceded by the word "NewsFilter"?

NBC just called it. I'm sure the rest will fall in line. How long till the recounts begin?

The war. Bush. Democrats. Lieberman.

Next stage: the investigations, astonishing revelations, a lot of people go to jail.

Best theory: the Republicans are too dumb to understand that a lot of what they were doing was illegal and there will be clear records of the profiteering on Iraq and on the NOLA reconstruction.

From the article: An adviser to Allen, speaking on condition of anonymity because his boss had not formally decided to end the campaign, said the senator wanted to wait until most of canvassing was completed before announcing his decision, possibly as early as Thursday evening.

Allen conceded? Haven't seen that on the wires yet...

The recounts are required as long as there is a <1% margin. Allen hasn't conceded but I bet Allen lets go and concedes rather than let it go till December. Yeah and friggin Newsfilter. Foo!

A recount isn't required at all -- if the margin is <0.5% and the recount is requested by the candidate, then the state will pay for it. If the margin is between 0.5% and 1%, the losing candidate is allowed to get a recount if he pays for it himself.

Looks like after we elect a Democratic President we'll have 2 years to make things fucking right again. Those two years, in my estimation, will be the most important years of the Presidency in my lifetime.

Also: since Allen has made many disparaging remarks about recounts in 2000 and 2004, it's doubtful he would elect to have one done unless the margin narrows to within a couple thousand votes. After all, John Warner's probably set to retire in 2008, and if Allen wants to attempt a return to Congress (which I'm assuming he'll at least consider doing) then he'll not want to have been branded a racist and a hypocrite before doing so.

I'll keep the bubbly in the fridge until Macaca mans up and admits it but VA's last recount only had a correction of 27 votes.

But otherwise it seems now the worm has turned and it's payback time...

And speaking of Rush Limbaugh, when you consider the narrow margins involved with some of these elections, its COMPETELY concievable that his Michael J Fox bullshit could, I say COULD, have been enough to piss off 12,000 or so people (with sick friends/relatives) out of the 300,000,000 in this country and tipped the Senate into the Blue.

Even if this isn't true, the thought makes me bubbly with glee, and I want to say "Thanks, Rush"!

Not so fast Pollyanna, The Dems did not "win" this election, it was lost by Bush (and Republican corruption, hubris). There is no reason yet to assume the Dems won't fumble the ball between Jan'06 and Nov'08

An online acquaintance of mine has a bad habit of inserting random nonsense about abortion or gay marriage in otherwise normal-person emails that he sends me and it often ends up with us in an argument over something. The other day he was praising Allen and what a fine man he was. Said if the Democrats had any significant gains, it would result in utter ruin for the country. So today I sent him a long insane screed about how he was right and that the sky was falling, churches were burning, zombie-things were in the streets eating fetuses, etc.

He hasn't replied yet.
