George Allen concedes. The Democrats will control the Senate as well as the House. And there was much rejoicing. (NewsFilter)

There are multiple other mid term political posts open and on the front page, and I say this even as a "political junkie".

If this is going to remain open I'll cut-paste my last comment to one of those others..

Wy's Senator, R - Craig Thomas, was just diagnosed with leukemia. I don't wish him ill, but if he ends up leaving the state's Democrat Governor would appoint a successor, the "balance of power" could swing even more.

*note - as of now Thomas says he is returning to Washington and will not step down.

Cool. Can we start the treason and war crime hearings now?

Orthogonality helpfully provided us with a transcript of Allen's speech.

sourwookie, we have to wait until they're sworn in in January.

But then? Can we start them then?

The next two months are going to witness more shredded documents in Washington than ever in history.

If anything good came come out of this, hopefully it's rolling back all of the damage done to the Constitution over the past 4 years. And how about some damn trials for the captives in Gitmo already.

No shit, AZ. Rummy's deputy/head-smasher Cambone is resigning too.

Did CNN really just say that the WH resubmitted Bolton as the nominee to the UN?!? Wow. Does he realize that that's an anti-reality "fuck you" to the Congress and the rest of the world?

Uh, are you shocked by that?

"The next two months are going to witness more shredded documents in Washington than ever in history."

Hey, the Republicans can get some mileage out of that... "Look! We're recycling! We're all about the environment!"

I certainly hope the Dems do something about all those American boys dying overseas.

Fuck Saigon!

Amazing, I expected him to drag it out with a recount and to continue being a public asspappy about it.

Oh yeah, there goes Georgie's other nut, now the Dems have the House and the Senate. Suck it, Geogie-boy.

Without a veto-proof majority, this might never get beyond wishful thinking.

Riiiiight. Because Dems didn't vote for any of that Patriot Act bullshit.

Keep dreaming.

spiderwire-- yeah, I admit it, I am surprised about that. About the timing, at least. He gave a conciliatory press conference yesterday, then he has Pelosi over for pictures and fence-mending, then that afternoon renominates a guy who was too ideological for the GOP-held Senate to confirm?

Oh, NYT says he wants the current Senate to confirm Bolton and Gates.

Still obnoxious, but less unrealistic.

Yeah, they might as well pre-print any new bills coming out of Congress next year with a big VETO stamp on them. W has plenty of veto credits to use over the next two years.

Did CNN really just say that the WH resubmitted Bolton as the nominee to the UN?!?

AP: "Prospects for extending John Bolton's job as U.N. ambassador essentially died today as Democrats and a pivotal Republican said they would continue to oppose the nomination....Sen. Lincoln Chafee, R-R.I., who was defeated by Democrat Sheldon Whitehouse on Tuesday, told reporters in Rhode Island on Thursday that he would continue opposing Bolton. That would deny Republicans the votes they would need to move Bolton's nomination from the Senate Foreign Relations Committee to the full Senate.

Democrats indicated that even should the Senate try debating Bolton's nomination when lawmakers reconvene next week — still under Republican control — they would stretch out debate on Bolton with the aim of killing it."

Need two thirds Senate support for an impeachment. Not happening.

Not only that, but as much as I'd like to see it, Dean would be a damned fool to try for an impeachment, even if he had closer to the two thirds of support. I sincerely doubt enough of the American people are willing to take that step, and it would likely cost the Democrats dearly in the future.

Impeachment requires simple majority in the House. To be found guilty of the articles of impeachment in the Senate requires 2/3 support.
