The paint huffer mugshot is a thing of beauty.

I'm pretty fond of the "Get a life, Morans!" guy, myself. And what about the nunchuck kid that tried the flip and missed?

"Blog", "AJAX", "Web 2.0" are far, far worse. If those count as web moments.

June 10, 1999: eBay crashes because they leave their servers in a dumpster, and apply patches when the mood strikes. Bit embarrassing. Unlike this list.

Was that guy dead?

aye, I don't know, I personally really like Ajax and alot of the Web 2.0 stuff, while the name might be lame, does pretty cool stuff.

smackfu, they could have just repeated the huffer 13 times and I would have been happy. Everything about that photo is truly perfect.

how could they not have mentioned that he got arrested for it TWICE? there are two different mugshots of that dude.

my kingdom for an img tag...

I had heard about the DEA agent shooting himself in the foot, but I didn't realize there was video. That's a classic moment, that one. I like how the parents begin to forcibly remove their children from the room as the mad wounded man continues to lecture despite his self-inflicted gunshot wound. "Gimme that other gun! Gimme that gun!"
posted by Kraftmatic Adjustable Cheese at 7:49 PM on November 17, 2006

Wow, I didn't notice they had video either. "I'm the only one in this room professional enough to carry this gun. Boom!"

That list is totally missing Afro-Ninja.

What fucking moron takes a loaded gun in front of a bunch of children?

neckro23 writes "That list is totally missing Afro-Ninja."

That was sublime. Thank you.

As to the Ballmer bit in the link... What the hell do they do to this guy? Give him a fat line of coke and a bottle of Thunderbird to chug, and then turn him loose?

What I want to know.. Does Ballmer consider that an embarassing moment?

No, he considers that a Tuesday.

Of course, what Alvy meant to post was:

there was this one time when i was in a remote mountain village a few hours from Beijing and I read that Syd Barrett had died...
posted by trinarian at 10:56 PM on November 17, 2006

Syd Barrett was awesome. Especially when he showed his tits like that.

What were we talking about?

The Afro-Ninja clip is from an action movie audition. I saw a longer clip a while ago with about 6 or 7 guys--including Afro-Ninja--doing very embarrassing, uh, "actions". Can't remember where I found it though...anyone know this one?

How is firing a bunch of people by SMS an embarrassing web moment?
posted by afx237vi at 6:36 AM on November 18, 2006

> How is firing a bunch of people by SMS an embarrassing web moment?

Or forwarding a boss' jerky email by email? Or playing the 'Dean scream' repeatedly on cable news?

Funny , I didn't know he is some sort of celebrity and always tought the guy was photoshopped into being shitfaced !

How's this for an embarassing web moment ?
posted by elpapacito at 7:52 AM on November 18, 2006

Apparently anything that has to do with computers or communications systems is a "web" moment. Of course, that's what you get from PC World...
posted by kdar at 7:59 AM on November 18, 2006

I thought much too big of a deal was made about Dean's scream but "Deansane in the Brain" (MP3 linked here) has come close to making it all worthwhile.

No matter how many times I see it, Ballmer going apeshit on stage still makes me laugh my ass off.

There's just something really funny about an overweight, middle-age guy going batshit-insane in front of thousands that is....well....priceless.
posted by tgrundke at 8:47 AM on November 18, 2006

I certainly agree that Ballmer's "Monkey Boy" dance deserves to be the #1 most embarrassing moment.

But what about Senator Ted Stevens' "The Internet is a series of tubes" speech? That wasn't exclusively Internet content, but it was one of the most shockingly mindless rants ever about the Internet.

We're probably all guilty of the occasional Web slip-up. Instead of IM-ing your coworker to complain about your wife, you get mixed up and IM your wife herself.

what does instant messaging have to do with the web??? does it use the http protocol nowadays? do we navigate from IM site to IM site via links? i wish i were a technology journalist so i could understand all this webby stuff.

Can somebody elucidate me w/r/t "Get a life, Morans!" and what that's aboout? Thanks.

Tron Costume Guy is sooo much more embarrassing than Star Wars Kid. Unlike SWK, TCG is old enough to know better. That said, thank you Tron Costume Guy. Your pictures make me giggle like a schoolgirl every time I see them.
posted by papoon at 12:44 PM on November 18, 2006

Unlike the Star Wars Kid, the Tron Costume Guy doesn't seem to mind the attention. Neither does the Peter Pan Guy or Mahir. Can't call it an embarassing moment if the subject doesn't feel any bad consequences from it.

Since email was fair game on the list (all they had to do was call it 'embarassing Internet moments'), why leave out l'affaire Claire Swire?

SPrintF, Thanks. My wife is the world's biggest Cardinals fan...

I'm awed by Tron costume guy. That's craft, right there. Of course, his physique and jarringly incongruous moustach make some of the pictures hilarious, but this is the modern equivalent to painted greek vases.

But as to Ballmer... man oh man... I remember seeing an interview with him on CNBC Europe when he was announced as the new CEO of Microsoft and I thought "now there's a weirdo." I feel history has borne me out.
posted by Kattullus at 5:12 PM on November 18, 2006

Actually, I kinda respect the Tron Costume Guy. I mean, he even made a (semi) cannon joke about him being overweight.

As for the others, yeah, I think the firing people by SMS wasn't so much embarrassing as mean, and I've *never* understood why people thought the so-called "Dean Scream" was worth commenting on.
