Suicidal Tendencies wrote some lyrics that people latched onto. Limp Bizkit used the lyric as a line in one of their songs. The links all appear to go to different sites that demonstrate this meme.

Unless I'm missing something: Meh.

I do like how it was a clever reference when Sage Francis used the line but a foul bastardization from Limp Bizkit.

Not that the latter isn't a pretty bad band. I don't have a point.

Since I'm already in nostalgia mode, why not get tangential: No Coke. Pepsi!

Not sure if I voted in that Flipside poll, but Suicidal was one of the worst bands playing big shows in LA back then. And their gang of fans were a pain in the ass.

I Saw You Mommy (And Your Mommy's Dead) is a fun song, though.

Never liked the brand-name "Pepsi." Always thought it sounded like an antacid. "Fresca" sounds better. Especially if you pronounce it with an "ah" at the end. Branding is insidious. Soda is essentially diluted syrup. It rots your teeth and turns children into obese pigs.

Picture this dude in a St. Louis Cardinals T-shirt and tan shorts. He's got NASCAR shades and a Magnum P.I. mustache. He wears a bandanna over most of his longish, vaguely mulletesque dirty brown hair. In his left hand, he's holding a sign that reads "Go USA." In his right hand he holds a sign that says "Get a brain! Morans." In the background are several other folks who are dressed like working class Midwesterners.

The source of the humor, I guess, is that though our protagonist intends to call someone else a moron, in fact by mispelling the word he has shown his audience and indeed much of the internet that, really, he is the moron.

GeekFilter: I wrote a paper on Repo Man for a film class in college, which necessitated watching it six times in two days, often frame by frame, in an attempt to pick up every visual in-joke. One gem: in the scene where Miller is talking to Otto about time machines while throwing random things into a flaming oil drum, if you watch real closely, one of the items is a paperback copy of "Diuretics," by A. Rum Bubble.

has anyone figured out what this post means, yet? i'm curious.

RTQP, Since no one has really stated what the hell is going on, I will.

In 1983, a bad punk band from LA called Suicidal Tendencies wrote one lasting song called Institutionalized. It was half a spoken word diatribe from a teenager about his mom, half a typical yelly punk tune.

The classic line was "all I wanted was a Pepsi, but she wouldn't give it to me."

The song was included in the Repo Man soundtrack, thus all the Repo Man references.

The full lyrics are here.
