Thanks for the reminder that all professional sportsmen are not overpaid jerks with enormous egos.

That is completely awesome. If I remember correctly, Carman's list of responses was the inspiration for a similar bit in Bull Durham.

OK I'm insane, as Bull Durham predates the list.

That was excellent, thanks.

That is brilliant, it must have been a great experience for him and his son to go through that old time capsule together. And it's good when stuff like this happens to people who can then broadcast it to a wide audience. Surely this can inspire a movie..

Just kidding... that was an excellent link

Great post.

I sent the incomparable Jack Voigt his baseball card, which he signed and sent back to me, as a present for my little sister.

if you're lucky, you'll find an envelope with some exotic postmark—Chicago, Milwaukee, Arlington...

Wow, I live somewhere exotic! [looks out window at 12 inches of snow that fell last night]. Exotic sucks.

Interesting post though.

Everywhere is exotic when you live in Fort Worth. Also, that was a good story, thanks JeffL.

Great story. I sent some of these out. I don't know if he really signed the cards or had a bat boy do it, but Deion Sanders was one of the few who responded. The first S in Sanders was a dollar sign.

Am I the only one who finds this kinda sweet? Maybe I'll have to develop a man-crush.

Thanks for the link.

Great story, and that list of cliche responses is awesome. The whole thing is well done, and the offbeat ones-- "yes," "no," "I know you are but what am I?"-- put it over the top.
