Three trees, one stool.

Grow your own. Furniture that is. Christopher Cattle has pictures and basic instructions on growing a three legged stool. Similiar previously here, here, and here.

Nice, pity it takes 5 years, I want it now.

This is cool. Pity also you got to cut the thing. After five years, I would've grown some sort of attachment to this.

Wouldn't it be easier to find a tree that's split into three branches and lop it off at the truck and then flip it upside down?

Kickstart: wouldn't be as sturdy or stable is my guess.

Not as strong for sure, the grafting method includes the three cross bars. Besides given time you can crank out as many of these as you'd like, finding the right tree would probably be more labour intensive all things considered.

I'm giving this a try with willows as soon as the ground thaws. I don't know how strong they be, willows are not exactly a common furniture wood. However they grow very fast so I'm hoping for results in 3-4 years. And they propagate very easily.

I might give it a try with some fruit woods too. Apple especially is gorgeous but it's tough to mill.

Forget the stool, I'm growing a couch!

I think you are going to find yourself on your butt with a willow stool Mitheral.

What I want to know is what happens when the wood dries out? Is't it going to warp? You might want to leave it attached to that frame for another year or so.

You know, I've heard of "grow your own furniture" but I assumed it was a joke sort of thing.

You've proved me wrong.
