Le Web 3 is not going well in the eyes of the attendees, and has turned into a platform for irrelevant politicians and product launches. Is this the biggest unconference yet? Tom Morris has a good summary.

"An unconference is a conference where the content of the sessions is driven and created by the participants, generally day-by-day during the course of the event, rather than by a single organizer, or small group of organizers, in advance. " I can't imagine this scaling well past a dozen people or so. Morris does not think this is an unconference, BTW.

Wow - I'd be demanding a refund if I had paid money to attend what I thought was a technical event only to be handed politics.

Thing is, I wonder if we aren't seeing a bit of the future here. Web 2.0 is a blast and all, but I kind of miss the days when there were fewer Normals clogging up our beloved series of tubes. I hardly think Al Gore invented teh internets just so Myspace could make a mess of it. So now that more and more of the world is getting wired up, it only seems natural that oily politician scumbags would start trying to exploit it and trying to tie their names to "The Future". I can only hope that the Internet continues to bite back. I count Rick Santorum becoming "The Frothy Mixture" and Tom Delay shutting down comments as major triumphs. Give'em hell!
