On your mark ... get set ... drawer
December 17, 2006 7:06 AM   Subscribe

Drawer Geeks is an illustration challenge founded by Greg Hardin. Alternate Fridays, a group of 25+ professional animators, illustrators, cartoonists, and designers riff on a given fictional character. This past week's theme was Santa Claus. Among archived themes, I particularly liked: Medusa and The Grim Reaper. (via diminished Responsibility)

Great, now I'm going to spend the entire rest of my day clicking through these pictures. Luckily, I was never going to amount to much anyway. Wow, this stuff is creative.
(Special props to them for including a Harry Potter section. My day is made!)

Wow, this is the best art thread I've seen a while. Fantastic, once again, mjjj. Metafilter loves you, but you knew that.

Nice one, mj3. BlueSky Studios has a similar thing going as well.

This is excellent, especially all the non-superheroic characters. All the ones for Captain America, frex, were depressingly similar. And don't get me started on Thor.

Fantastico! I only wish there were an easy mechanism to order prints of some of these...because I am in love with some of them.

HA, cortex. Why do all pictures that look like Liza Minelli also look like me???? So weird.

Superb. I particularly enjoyed the Catwoman page - they seemed to have lots of fun with that one.

Best of Web.

Best of Best of Web.

Could only be Bester of Best Of Web if the images were available in 1920x1200.

FANTASTIC FPP. Thanks!

Pretty cool.

Although with all the superheros in there, I'm surprised they didn't do Wolverine.

...for that matter, no Superman either. Supergirl, but not Superman. Huh.

Wait, Superman is there. Durr. Now I feel dumb.

I love this. Brilliant idea to just give something simple and collectively known to a range of talents and see what happens.

What ColdChef said. This is my favorite post of the year, by a large margin. Thanks, mj3, you've really found something awesome here.

I'm delighted to see y'all are enjoying this site as much as I did. It's fun to see talented people strut their stuff.

Zack_Replica, thanks for that bluesky challenge link - another great site. I love the animal hybrids. They should have a new page posted sometime today, cool.

Suck point: If one tries to open a page in a new tab in Firefox, it always opens the Smurfette page.
