Operation Fragmentation

The artists participating in Operation Fragmentation were given an unpainted vinyl doll (with a grenade shaped head) and an Army surplus ammo case and let loose to create what they wished. The results are really great, with the steampunk automoton, the peace dove & the explosive genie in a bottle being my three favorites.

This is really neat. I like "Suicide Bomb Girl" both as a piece and just as a title. Clever!

But "Suicide Bombshell" would have been better.

Joakim Ziegler: Nah, the Suicide Girls are way more awesome than your average bombshell.

What a strange idea for a project. It definitely yielded some remarkable results though. I like the Blood for Vampires one myself.

Customizing production toys has a long history in the art toy movement. I love seeing artists adapt their style to another form. That and the low level competitive buzz among artists working on the same toy for a group show really brings out some innovative and fresh designs.
